Gulp. After being healthy all my life (I'm 48), last week the doctors found long standing rectal cancer that has spread into all of the lymph glands in my pelvis and has also travelled to the lymph glands above my sternum.
They said surgery was not an option yet, that I must do radiotherapy and chemotherapy simultaneously first (chemo because some abdominal organs are too close to be safe for radiotherapy) to stop the spread and hopefully shrink what's there.
Has anyone else undergone this sort of treatment? Please tell me you had a good outcome. I'm really worried that it's been there too long and spread too far to stop. Am I going to get really sick?
The doctors seem much more worried about the lymph gland tumors than the rectal tumor.
I don't see the chemo specialist until this Thursday and the radiotherapy specialist until Monday next week.
Something positive to help me feel hopeful before then would be really appreciated.
Thanks Mamas.

My DH is going through treatment for lymphoma now.
