its sickening isn't it? yes, NY is doing this and exemptions of any kind will not be allowed.

how can this be? swine flu is 'pandemic' and NY has called a 'flu state of emergency'. amazing what powers the health commissioner suddenly has during 'health emergencies'. if this stands in NY - could set a scary precedent for the rest of the country.

Wonder if one could develop an allergy to eggs.....

I only hope that my state doesn't do the same.

Can they really discriminate against one group of people?

Or do they require all employees of all hospitals in the state to take the same 2 shots?

Guess it's ALL HEALTH CARE WORKERS who have patient contact in NYS.

Boy am I glad my baby is due before the Nov 30 cut off date- I doubt my midwife is going to succumb to this unjustice.

And my husband, who is in Boston just told me about the pandemic bill 2028that passed the Mass. state Senate and is awaiting approval in the house- $1000/day fine for those who "criminally" refuse mandated vaccines, and provisions for transporting, detaining, and quarantining (read: imprisoning) people against their will!

Kinda makes all those youtube stories of "detention center/concentration camps" seem pretty realistic!

Seems like the only way to overthrow this is for as many people as possible to simply not comply, in which case they won't have the ability to actually enforce it. I hope to see a ton of health care workers like my two friends strike- heck, I'd like to start a nonprofit to support them financially *while* they strike!

Down here on Long Island, a pretty big group of healthcare workers are refusing the vaccine; I'm really hoping the unions wil be able to do somehomg before people start losing their jobs.

This is true. If enough people refused to comply with these ridiculous demands, there just isnt' enough health care workers as it is... they'd have no choice than to stop treating people like animals. What if a health care worker already HAD the swine flu? They'd have immunity far superior than anything they could get in a vaccine and they wouldn't even need the vaccine anyway! Are they taking titre tests for that before firing people?

If they get away with this, and if enough people in NY do not stand up for their rights and REFUSE this vaccine, this could be a likely scenerio for the rest of the states too. They are seeing what they can get away with in one group of people (health care workers) and once that is widely accepted as fact, I'm sure they will be after other groups of people next.

If that nonprofit is ever started, I would support them. I'm not in NY but too close for comfort. It could happen anywhere.

This makes me so angry I could spit. A number of the nurses I work with (who have taken the regular flu shot) have said "I'm not taking the swine flu shot" We had a message from the CEO about a month ago that those who did not take both reg & swine flu vax will have to wear masks until March but the nurse manager said in the staff meeting that they were backing off the swine flu requirement although nothing has come back in writing from the CEO confirming this. I guess I am lucky we are at least getting the mask option.

Guess it is time for me to be looking into getting out of patient care and into health information systems or something.

I am very angered by this law as well. I work as a homecare nurse and am going to also be loosing my job on or before 11/30 as I refuse the injection. It will be interesting next week when the occupational health nurse visits our office and I refuse to be immunized...wondering how it will all end up going down.

I feel so awful for those loosing their jobs for refusing to get a flu shot. So so sad that it has come to making such a choice.

Mandatory Flu Shot & H1N1 for healthcare workers in NY! Please help me!

Idk if there's already a thread like this, but if someone could help me out, it would be much appreciated! I'm literally freaking out right now, and so if I ramble, please forgive me.

Here are the facts w/bullets to make reading it a little easier.

~NYS mandates Flu shot for all healthcare workers employed in a health care facility by November 30th, and H1N1 has already been mandated, though no dates have been set.

~I'm an RN at a large hospital on Long Island NY.

~My job recently decided that *their* deadline will be October 4th. Anyone not having gotten the flu shot by then will be placed on unpaid administrative leave and terminated soon thereafter.

~NYS offers a medical exemption for these vaxes, but not a religious one. I am religiously opposed, but medically fine. My job would require documentation from an allergist that I am allergic to eggs, etc.

~I am a single mother and cannot afford to lose my job. I mean, I have money in the bank that I was saving for a house that I could live off of for up to 6 months, but money would be *really* tight, and it's taken me years to save it.

I am looking up some lawyers to find out if my job fires me before the NYS deadline, can I sue for wrongful termination? I am trying my best to find a vax lawyer who can help me save my job, because I really do love it.

If anyone can help me in any way at all, please PM or email me. I'm desperate. I cant sleep at night and I have stress at work all the time being hounded by my nurse managers and other bosses.

TIA,
Kelly

Are they offering any compromise? I know out here there's a hospital that's requiring the vax, but I believe you can not get it and wear the medical masks.
Nope, it's a state mandate. I've offered to wear full gown and mask and they literally laughed at me.

Merging these two threads.

This is supposed to be a free country, a yet we citizens seem to be litte more than test subjects for the government. There is already a shortage of nurses. Hospitals and other facilities will have to speak out when so many people quit.
Kelly - can you try to organize others who feel the same as you in your facility? what will the hospital do if on Oct 4, 20% of its workforce goes on strike?

apply for a job out of state? I'm sorry, I know this stinks, its unbelievable - but the government cannot be allowed to do this. this precedent simply cannot stand in NY.

Talk to your union reps, get other to talk with you - they should be authorizing a mass strike. xoxo
post #19 of 43
We dont have a union. Kinda wishing I stayed at my previous place, as they were union. And all the coworkers I've talked to don't want to make a fuss.

Anyone going on strike will be immediately terminated.

I am so very sorry. What a horrible situation to be put in.
