Will the Thirsties Duos work for a newborn?

We're going to be doing KL0s (a rental) until the new LO can fit into the OS fitteds and bigger PFs that we have, but I need to figure out what to do about covers. I really don't want to spend a lot on covers that will only be used for a few weeks, so I was thinking about getting the Thirsties Duos (size 1) so that they could be used as the baby grows. All of our covers for DD are regular Thirsties and we love them.

So, do you think they'll work for a NB with fitteds? Does it matter that they don't have the cord cut out? (because although we may do 'sposies until I feel up to going up and down the stairs for diaper laundry, I'd rather not do 'sposies for more than a couple of days)

I haven't got to use mine yet, waiting for baby in Nov, but I got a thirsties duo this week. It is definitely tiny enough for a newborn. I ordered it and a bummis in S (duo is 6-18 lbs, bummis small is 8-15lbs) The bummis is the same size (if not a bit bigger) as the duo out as big as it will go.

It looks like the duo will just fit below my newborn's cord w/o folding as I am expecting an at least 9lber. But it seems like it would fold down ok, too. My boys and I have practiced on their stuffed animal!

I hope you get some answers from people who have used them on newborns!

My nb was born at 7lb3oz and our issue was the cord stump. Both the Thirsies xs and the duo fit great after the stump fell off and we could put it up over the umbilicus. Before that they both were big, but the duo (on smallest setting) fit better than the original style.

I feel like we would have done better with premie covers at first, but the cord stump fell off after only 5 days, so I didn't really mind dealing with it for just a few days.

Now ds2 is 7 wks, 13 lbs-ish and on the largest duo setting. I have a feeling we'll move into the the size 2 before long, maybe around 15 lbs. We can already use the size 2 (I have size 2 for my ds1) on the smallest setting and I think we will outgrow the size 1 sooner than the label states. (says 6-18 lbs).

The Duo wasn't out when DD was a nb, but we used Thirsties XS. Sizing wise, you should be fine with them at the newborn stage. Once the cord fell off, they were my favorite covers to use. Before the cord fell off, I used Proraps, since the cord dip is a lot bigger than the Thirsties. They didn't last long, though. Right as the cord was falling off (almost 2 weeks), they were getting too small. The Thirsties have a more generous fit.

Watching this, because I am thinking I will go with the duo's and PF's for this baby.

They should work fine. And they're a great idea for a newborn with prefolds. Congrats on the new LO!
