Wool-What Would You Like to See?

I'm thinking about starting a full out wool cover sewing business, complete with other WAHM's sewing and whatnot. This is still way off but I've been looking around to try and get an idea of what people love in a wool cover.

I'm looking at mainly pants/shorts-but I may branch out into regular covers as well. Not looking at snaps or velcro though. This would be interlock wool, not knitted and I'd also be dying them and have a regular set of colors available.

I tend to prefer the fuller cut pants and shorts-karate/yoga style. I was also thinking of integrating a gusset in the crotch to both help accomidate larger diapers and to help keep the middle seem from splitting-I know toddlers can be rather rough on their clothes! What do you think? It'll make the sewing process more difficult but it'd be worth it if it's something people would like.

Anywho, whats your favorite thing about your own wool covers? Is there anything you'd change? I've only had one (old style) Luxe cover that was used to death and a bunch of hand knit covers, so I really need some thoughts from people who've actually USED interlock covers more. Actually this will be handy to help me decide what covers to get for my ds and new baby here soon...

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

I like a nice high waist, especially for boys who typically wet all out in front. My kids were all stomach sleepers once they could roll, and DS would wet right out of the front of his diapers and the back wouldn't even be damp. My Disana covers had nice high waists that could roll down or be kept up, and that really helped.

Long in the legs is nice too, even if you're not specifically making shorties or longies-- even a regular style cover can have long leg gussets or cuffs to help with leaks.

Drawstrings or waist elastic are nice for skinny kids who don't have enough booty to hold the cover up.

I like dark colors, so that they don't show stains. Not just poo stains-- also the kind of dingy stains you get from older infants scooting around all day on floors and on the grass.

I would love pants w/ pockets that don't cost $60

those cuff button things would be great too. my dd has short legs, so we have to cuff all of her longies ( that I'm too lazy to hem). it would be nice to have one of those strap thingies w/ a button hole to keep them rolled up

I'd also like to see fold down yoga waist. I love that look.

legging style (tighter leg) would be great for under dresses

skirties w/ legging style longies attached

lmk if you need testers DD is in wool 90% of the time & we love longies

I like wool covers that can fit under clothes without leaking. They don't have to be super trim, but trim enough to fit under something like overalls or sweatpants. Bonus if it can also fit over a night diaper.

Yeah, I have a tendancy to go for bolder colors anyway so I'd probably be doing a lot of deeper colors-partly for the exact same reason you mentioned. I'll throw in a couple lighter things for those who prefer it though.

After looking around at different covers, I guess the best I could compare to would be Sustainablebabyish, though of course I'll be using my own pattern and as I said, I'd like to add a gusset in the crotch of shorties/longies.

I'm also planning on making prefolds-bamboo, hemp, organic cotton.

Oh, I was also planning on making a version with cargo pockets, but I'm not sure about *regular* pockets. The roll up thing is a cool idea too. I think it'd be kinda cute to make ties instead of button things though, cute little bows for the girlies

Rainbow stripes, I've been searching endlessly for a rainbow striped sweater to make into longies for my DS,but I so far haven't found one that is wool.

Cargo pants would be awesome too.

It doesn't quite fit with the thread topic, but what kind of bamboo do you guys like too, for prefolds? All terry loop, all velour, or one on each side? I just realised after looking at fabrics I don't know what everyone likes! I know that you can't snappi velour, so that's probably not the best choice, but what about the other combos?

I've actually started my search for sewers already and I'm going to start making up my patterns. I'm so excited! This won't start for at LEAST several months, possibly more, but I can't wait. On top of that, I'll have 3 testers of my own-a 38 pound 4 year old, a 20 pound 1 year old, and a newborn. I can use my own samples on my own kids, lol. (Of course, I'll be sending out testers too once the time comes, but it'll be nice going into this knowing that at least if something doesnt work out, I can use them on my own kids.)
