Ds prefers to nurse on one side during the day

Is it possible to nurse on just one side all day?
Ds just really prefers to nurse on my left side during the day. When I try to nurse him on the right side, he may nurse for a moment, but then will pretty much unlatch and refuse to relatch. He gets a bit unhappy sometimes, but sometimes seems just fine not nursing more. My right breast gets full and uncomfortable, and he just won't empty it.
On the left side, he'll "empty" it and linger a bit and seems happy about it. So my breasts are pretty lopsided all day long!

I wouldn't think much of it because he's not a huge nurser. But it's *only* the right side that he ever refuses like this. The left side he's always fine with.
I've tried offering the right breast a few times in a row, and he does nurse eventually, but isn't happy about it. I've tried switching every other time, but then he saves his "real" nursing for the left breast.

I've tried to figure out if there's a reason for it, but I can't come up with anything. I don't think it would be an ear infection- it's been this way since he was born. And he's fine nursing laying on that side at night, in a side lying position. He'll empty it then, and seems quite content with it.
I tried side lying during the day with him nursing on my right side, and he's not a fan.

Is there any other possible reason for this? If I nurse mostly on the left side during the day, will my suppy even out? Or will my right breast just continue to be over-full and uncomfortable no matter what I do (other than get him to nurse on it. lol)

eta- ds is 3 mos old if that makes any difference

How interesting. I believe your supply will even out. I think it's even possible for your left breast to make more milk in the day and your right in the night, but I'm not 100% sure.

I'm tandem nursing, and I have my DS 4.5yo nurse on the left and my DD 15mo on the right. I am totally adjusted for this (I've been doing it for over a year) and I can't even tell if my DS doesn't nurse all day, but if he skips all night then I get engorged on his side. And the right makes enough for DD, and has since she was very small.

I think it's likely fine, but you may notice that the left stays bigger than the right after your supply adjusts.

HTH some

ooh, that's very good to know! I may just try it out for a few days and see how it goes.

Maybe it's something to do with how you're holding him is more comfy. It might not feel different to you but it does to him?

I have a few friends who always had more difficulties bfing on one side to the other.

Ds nurses pretty much exclusively on the left side during the night & the right during the day (because it's too awkward for me to bf on the right in bed with our set up). My body seems to have adjusted.
