Best carrier for nursing

Hi - I'm still a few months from delivery, but I'm hoping to find a great carrier that allows nursing to occur while packing the babe around. Any recommendations would be great! I registered for a Moby wrap - but don't know if it can be used while nursing? I'd love to re-register if you have other suggestions!

We loved, loved, loved our Moby. Used it constantly the first few months, and the other day I got it out again and we used it at the grocery store (he's 11 months, but very light for his age.) ETA: Whoops - he's 12 months now!

I don't generally nurse while baby wearing, but once he was fussy on a hike, and I nursed him in the Moby on the trail. He never liked being cradled and so the usual nursing positions in a sling didn't work well for us. I'm not sure if I would have nursed him regularly in the Moby, but it worked that once. He was in a tummy to tummy hold. I just loosened everything up so he slid down to where his mouth was at the breast.

You could consider cross posting this in the babywearing forum, by the way.

I love love love my ergo. I'm not sure about nursing a newborn in it since I don't have the infant insert and didn't get it until DD was 6 months old. But it's super comfy and I nurse in it all the time. The way it is situated and with the hood up you can't even see that we're nursing!

I nursed both kids in a wrap for over 4 years for both of them, completely doable, we didn't get a Moby because of the elastic in it, great for newborns but not so good for older babes, our was a Girasol wrap and I love it, the double cross with pocket is the best position I found for nursing in, covers everything up and keeps it all discreet. remember when putting babe in the wrap to keep the baby at breast level, alot of the positions recommended are up alot higher, but then nursing is not so easy and the weight is on the lower back rather than the hips.

I have nursed in our Moby type wrap and in our Ergo. I find the Ergo easier when they are a little bit older since you can easily loosen the straps and it has the hood for some privacy. The Moby wrap is a lot eaiser to use for a newborn though.

I have a Pikkolo (cross between an ergo and a mei tai, I think) and find nursing in it to be really easy and discreet. It's much easier than sitting and nursing, even. DP said that no one would be able to tell I was nursing in it.
I am short and small-chested, so I'm not sure how much that plays into it. My ds is 3mos old.

I also have a stretchy wrap that seems like it would work for nursing, but I haven't tried it yet.

I preferred a lightly padded ring sling.

I have a Pikkolo, too...what hold/position do you nurse in? I've tried nursing in my Ergo Sport (upright/hug hold) and I don't know if my babe is long, if I just hang too low (ugh) or if I was just doing something wrong because it just didn't work.

Has anyone nursed in a SBP sling? I am looking at her SPB'd Maya wrap, but I don't think that one is lightly padded.

I had a stretchy wrap that I LOVED for nursing a small baby in. The best thing was that it pulled over the shoulder and up my side so that no one could see anything. Ring slings also work well, but I felt more exposed so I only used them at home.

I have nursed in a ring sling, a stretchy wrap, a mei tai and a woven wrap.

The woven wrap won for comfort, hands down. This becomes the only viable option if you want to breastfeed hands-free with a 13-month old, as I have done.

The stretchy wrap was fine if I was stationary, but didn't offer much support as my child grew older (like beyond the first 6 weeks) or if I needed to walk a little.

My two favorite for nursing a newborn are wraps (either woven or stretchy) and ring slings, since you can position baby pretty much exactly as you need for nursing.

I let out the shoulder straps all the way, which puts his head is about breast level. That's all I change- he's still sitting the same way in it, just lower and more on the back part.
It could just work because I'm shortish and small chested. I hope it still works when he's bigger!

Thanks for all your pointers!

For newborns, I used wrap or ring slings. Once they get a little older and have good head control it is very easy to nurse in a mei tai too.

I'll have to try this. When I let the straps out, though, she leans so far back...I can't imagine walking around that way. Does it do this for you?
