My baby is 4 days old. She can latch on but won't suck. In the hospital the LC said she was holding her tongue up to the roof of her mouth and said to feed some formula with a syringe. That was hard so I am giving her formula and pumped BM. Anyone have ideas on how I can get her to feed from the breast? I want to exclusively BF.

i would, in this instant get a DAL or Lactaid and try to get baby back to the breast asap, fill up the DAL with breastmilk rather than formula if at all possible, do you have supply issues or is that possible? have you checked for tongue tie? See if she can stick her tongue out, lift it up in the middle, side to side etc, you have to do the exercises in an exaggerated manner for baby to manage it. When baby is latched on do you feel any tongue movement? You could let her suck on your little finger to see if you can feel the tongue moving in the middle. Let me know how you get on!!

Haberman feeder

Ask for a Haberman feeder. A getup with tubes that attach to your breasts with tape. You "suckle" baby at the breast while supplementing.
