A sad tale of an abandoned kombucha scoby

So... I got my first scoby last November. I made a batch. I didn't sample it for 2 months (I was sort of grossed out), and when I did, I let my then 2 year old have some. It was really strong and vinegarry, and two hours later, he was covered in hives.

I just put the whole thing in the garage and kind of forgot about it.

Now I want to try it again- I suspect that the hives DS experienced were a die off symptom.

Is it too late? The scoby is still in tea, and has made a couple others underneath itself (hard to tell how many-10?). It smells the same, there is no mold or scum on top, and there doesn't seem to be any change in color.

It just feels a little, well, odd, to consider doing anything in the kitchen with something that has been growing in the garage for 10 months.

I would for sure try it out!!!! But I can't tell you any scientific reason why. Hopefully someone else can be more helpful. But I would definitely try it out!

I would go for it... and as far as your DS's adverse reaction NT says to try (2weeks?) of beet kvass to detox and then to try again in little doses
