Rose hips

MIL has a rose bush that she planted, as it was a leftover from when BIL closed his nursery. The lady who ordered it picked this specific one because of it's prized rose hips; however she never picked it up b/c it was too expensive. It's still a small bush and has relatively few rose hips on it at this point.

So anyway, as I was cruising some back roads I found some more rose hips in the wild. I imagine they're from a multiflora rose:

After seeing the first bush, I was able to look around and see that there were a ton of them!!!

So back when she got this plant with the amazing hips, I looked around to see what could be done with them. I found some recipes for Rose Hip Jam (and also a band with the same moniker....what a great name for a band!!) but the lone bush didn't have enough hips. So my question is, are some hips good and others bad? Could I use the multiflora rose hips for recipes? Anyone with any rose hip experience, recipes, etc? Thanks!

I've eaten wild rose hips that grew up on my property growing up, but they were not tasty. Edible, but seedy and not tasty at all. I don't know about jam or anything, I just ate them off the bush.

Those are lovely rose hips! You can use any ripe (red) rose hips for jam, rose hip syrup, or dry them and use them as a tea. I have a British preserving book with some recipes, but haven't tried any yet. Googling will get you lots of recipes.
