I've had my kefir grains for several years now, and while I think they recently stopped growing, they seemed to be making kefir just fine. I've always followed instructions pretty carefully. At one point I used marginally sour raw milk, after reassurance that it was fine. Maybe that doesn't make a difference, but I noticed that it took several batches til it tasted non-sour.
ANYWAY last batch I was straining and could not find them! After restraining, it seems they broke up to bunches of tiny grains, resembling the curd that was in there. :/ I could barely find them.
Has this ever happened to anyone? I have no idea why they apparently just broke up from the larger grains. I think I will just order some new ones on etsy, unless someone offers
but I'm a little confused as to how this happened!
