I'm just curious to know how many hours you go before you change your baby's disposable diaper after sleeping at night...

I have a 3.5 mo old son.

I put him to bed around 9-10pm and I have waited as long as 9-10 hours before putting a new diaper on him overnight because I'm just so exhausted in the middle of the night and desperate for a few more hours of sleep. I'm worried that if I change him in the middle of the night, he won't go back to sleep. I'm single parenting too, so having DH do it is not an option. I feel like a terrible mom to let him go that long, but I also need those extra few hours of sleep... Is there anything wrong with that? I have paid my penance a few times with diaper leaks and then having to do a load of laundry!

I haven't used disposables for awhile, but I think you're pretty normal. I do pretty much the same with cloth. For the first few months I will change them when they wake to eat but once they are sleeping longer hours I don't change them unless they are poopy which is really rare.

we don't change wet diapers at night. Especially disposables. If it wakes the baby, sure we change it and make babe comfortable. Poop is a different story.

I've never used disposables but with cloth, as long as she wasn't poopy, I usually let her sleep through the night without changing her. She never got rashy as long as I let her air out the next day, and we both needed the sleep.

We use/used sposies at night once my Child slept all night shes slept in the same diaper till morning it was the same when/if we used cloth. IF shes was messy and we were aware of course she got changed but we didn't wakea sleeping baby. I'd change her ASAP in the morning though.

My dd is 21 months and wears sposies (huggies supreme) and I change her after probably 7-8 hours... Not because I wake her up to change her, but the child has NEVER slept more than 3-4 hours at a go... So when she wakes up at 3 or 4 AM, I give her a quick change before trying to get her to go back down. I'd never wake a sleeping kid to change their diaper, unless wetness and rashiness were issues. Some kids can tolerate middle of the night diaper changes - neither of mine could! They were ANGRY at the intrusion on their sleep, lol.

I wouldn't wake him just to change his diaper. It's if he is already making sounds and needs to be fed, that is when I'm wondering if I should change him.

I actually tried that at 4:30am this morning, knowing that I wanted to go back to sleep at least until 8:30/9am. His diaper had been changed before bed at 9pm, so that would have meant a 12 hour diaper change gap.

He ended up crying on the changing table, but did calm down once I nursed him and we did go back to sleep. He doesn't cry at all at night, so I didn't like causing it.

So, after trying that experiment, I'm not sure it's worth it to get him all upset and risk him not going back to sleep. I just feel a bit neglectful in letting him stay in a 12 hour urine soaked diaper, though the gel seems to do a good job or absorbing it all. It is quite heavy when I take it off, that's for sure.

I guess soon enough he will hopefully be sleeping longer stretches and I won't be as tired.

I have a 3.5 month old too, and she generally goes 12 hours, usually I use cloth but when I use a disposable it's the same. We've never had leaks, and she doesn't get rashy from it (her bum actually looks the best in the mornings!). Don't feel bad, I don't think the baby cares!
