New to Ergo Back Carry - What am I doing wrong?

Hi Mamas,

I've been using an ergo for the first time with new baby (now 6.5 mo old) since she was about 3.5 mo. I just tried her in back carry for first time this weekend and she seemed to love it. Fell right asleep for several hour chunks which is fantastic. BUT, I think I am wearing it way too low. She isn't high up like she should be on my back like I see in pics of other mamas. I'm horribly uncomfortable and now quite achy after wearing her for the last 3 hours. I've adjusted all I can see to adjust. The waist band in back carry seems a lot lower, it's stretching right across my baby elly pouch. I feel like there is too much give in the shoulders and that I need to keep hoisting her up, even with tightened side straps and chest strap. Any advice?

The Ergo is "supposed to" be worn low - around the hips. Your baby is just barely at the earliest age recommended for back carries, so maybe that's why she looks so low? I have found that the most common mistakes that people make with the Ergo is not enough tightening of the straps, or not getting the baby down low enough... which doesn't really sound like what your problem might be but...

Do you still have the DVD that comes with the Ergo? If not, I think the video is available on their website. Maybe try re-watching it.
