Shopping for baby clothes - Page 2

I got a lot of good clothes through yardsales with both my girls. With my first I got some great clothes from the parents of the children in the nursery class I ran at church. I was totally blessed to not have to get clothes for the first year. However with my second I had given most of DD1s clothes to a single Marine who was having a girl. So, I had to buy a LOT of stuff. Things that were good:
1) Clearance rack- Theres manager specials during season change where I could get 50% off clearance. So I would get outfits for like 2.00 each
2) Yard Sales
There isn't any consignment stores here but I hear they are expensive depending on the store.

I would save aside cash instead of clothes since you don't know what size your baby will be. DD1 skipped from 6-9 month clothes to 18 month clothes in a month. DD2 has spent time in every size. I wasn't expecting it and ended up having like 1 outfit that fit her. Babies all grow at different rates.

Same.

Old Navy, Gymboree, and Carter clearance prices are generally lower than what's charged for similar pieces of clothing at consignment stores.

And I'm buying boys stuff. These stores generally keep far less boy's clothing around--generally about three-fourths of what's IN the clearance section at any given store is girl's clothing.

To the OP: look for footed, light cotton sleepers in sizes 3m-12m. During colder months, your child can wear them as outfits, during warmer months, as night-wear. And if you have a nice pile of them, you always have something an infant can wear.

After having a large baby I would caution against paying money for infant clothes. My son was born needing size 3-6 months. We couldn't use any of the newborn stuff. It seems that paying money for the little clothes is unnecessary, especially if money is tight. I know some people who get free clothes or thrift store clothes and they use deep colors to dye them if they do not like pastels.
