My sauerkraut leaked- change jars??

I made a batch of sauerkraut yesterday and the jar leaked this morning. (I didn't have any mason jars left and so I used a jar with a plastic lid- ugggh.) Should I change jars? I made a half gallon and I only have a gallon jar available with a secure lid so it will have a ton of air in it. Any thoughts??

I don't see a problem with it, as long as everything is submerged you are OK

My jar on top of the fridge is covered with a cloth right now but, I follow Sandor Katz, and am a bit of a doting fermenter

Oh, *IF* I do use a lid I do not put it on tightly so there are no explosions or messes to clean up

leaked as in has a crack or leaked as in leaked out the top between the jar and lid? Mine ALWAYS leak out the top (even in tightly sealed mason jars). I just ferment on a towel to catch the leaks.

I only made sauerkraut once so far, but the jars leaked on me too. I think this has happened with some of my other ferments. I think it is normal and comes with the territory! Just clean up and keep fermenting!

Thanks, everyone! No crack, just the bubbling out.
