I think it was part of the "fate" metaphor, that neither of them was in control. It was fate or God, or whatever.

I hate how long we have to wait. I can't even believe that I care enough about a tv show to resubscribe to SHO again in August to watch this. Oy, what a ridiculous wait!!


So, I missed a few episodes in the middle of the season and they aren't replaying, as far as I can tell. OnDemand isn't available in our area Anyone know where I can get them?

ETA: Oh, wait. Hulu only does the 5 most recent episodes, right? How about Surf the Web? You have to deal with some "adult" ads, but I just ignore them. Does anyone put them on YouTube?

it was def trinity. my bf thinks that dexter will have to cover up somewhat cos the police will be majorly suspect that trinity went SO off pattern to kill dexter's wife... i mean bathtub killing is always a younger single woman. rita would have fit the jumper. so my bf thinks dexter is going to have to cover it up, at least partially.

also, will this make dexter MORE human or MORE his dark passenger? he was honestly starting to say, you know, i don't want to kill anymore, i want to be the man rita deserves, and this season he was making major turns towards genuine love and affection for his family, even deb, when previously he always made a big deal in his v.o.'s about faking it all. and this season his v.o.'s he's been marveling at just how human he was becoming, feeling things for his family that he couldn't before. so will this turn all that around and just make him be like, this is why i couldn't have feelings before? or make it more of a now i have to take care of my children (at least harrison) thing...

i also don't think trinity like... set harrison up like that. but from the sound of it, until rita's phone was off, harrison was asleep or something. as soon as he called his vm and was like "i'm catching a later flight" i put my hand on my mouth and i was just thinking, omg, i hope he didn't kill the baby too...cos i knew she was gone...

AND finally, will deb's knowing about dexter and the itk being brothers ever come to anything??? probably not. she seemed pretty convinced that he was genuinely surprised, and was even grappling with whether or not she should have told him the truth. she won't figure out that he was the bay harbor, or anything cos itk and the bhb were unrelated...

anyway, WOW! great season finale. i have to admit that the previous season finales left me like, eh... everything wraps up in a neat little package again. i even thought that this time... when he was dumping trinity. and then it was like... omg. they actually took a chance for once!! and i never hated rita. i thought she was great. i mean, a regular wife. but someone he could really move his life towards. i thought it as weird that in season 1 she was downright mousy and then they kind of... sexed her up... i liked her better battered and distrustful and innocent and sweet... lol. but now i guess none of us have to worry about that either way.

I think it's going to get darker. I think the grandparents will get the kids, Dexter will be all alone, and his dark passenger will start to take over. I don't see why else they'd kill Rita. It'd be weird to have him be a single dad.

Does anyone know if there was any reason the actress who plays Rita (don't know her name) had to leave the show? Or is that just where they wanted to go with the plot?

i have seen julie benz in some other stuff recently. another show and a couple movies... but i don't know if thats why she got off'd. i mean, anymore than dokes...

OH. MY. GOD. are you kidding me?!?!?!?!

We just watched it (I had to avoid this thread until then).

I was totally not expecting THAT. I mean, I was expecting something, b/c I knew there was a twist, a shock factor and since we watched it online, I had just hovered over the bottom of the screen and saw there was only 3 min. left and I was kinda bummed thinking, wtf? That's it? that can't be it. so he killed Trinity, good. but then when her phone rang, and the baby cried ...........I felt dizzy! I had to leave the room and come back and re-watch it.


ahhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I'll have to come back when I process it a bit. DH is watching the videos now with Lithgow and Michael C. Hall talking about the finale. (um, hello Michael all scruffy looking )

I'm thinking he'll claim copycat. Unless there was cremation dust at the scene there's no real way to definitively say "Trinity" you know? So Dexter will probably pull something out about blood or pattern or something and claim it was a copycat killer that had it out for her or him. He may even pull Elliot in as a scapegoat...just to get him out of the neighborhood so he can be "alone" again.

Do you think he'll keep the house or switch with Deb and take his apt back?

So I've been marinating in this for a while, and I have some questions - just little things that are bugging me or that I'm wondering about.

What was the point, early in the season, of revealing that Rita was married to someone before Paul? Was that just a storyline they abandoned, or does it still have legs? I've been waiting on that all season, and it seems like they just let it go.


Does anyone else think that Rita's character will continue on in a role like Harry's? Only she'll be trying to turn Dexter away from his darker side?

i was saying the same thing only about trinity. would trinity be like a version of his dark passenger. egging him on. cos i mean, dexter will always want and never quite get revenge. like they said in the interview. will that open him up to a whole new level of crazy?

also, i think the point of the other husband story thing and the elliot thing was that dexter was learning that his "perfect" rita wasn't perfect. and that like him, she had flaws and secrets. but that he could be with her past them, and that maybe, just maybe, she could be with HIM past his. which is what she said when they were on the bed that last time... i think it wasn't supposed to go into a story line, just a point of reference to show dexter evolve. which obviously they planned on completely undoing in the finale... its almost like, if you look back at the season, every single turn where you think wow, dexter is getting more and more serious about being a dad and husband and family man... it was all so that they could strip it back all the way down in this last episode...

sorry i'm posting so much and SO LONG! but i have no one to talk about it to and i just am really intrigued by this season moreso than any past season...

so, I kept seeing the final scene in my head last night every time I would wake up -- and first thing this morning. That should teach me not to watch things like this late at night. The night before we watched Food Inc. at midnight, and it is also giving me nightmares.

anyway, I still think Dexter is one of my all time favorite series. I had no idea I would like it this much -- when DH first started watching season 1 on netflix, I figured I would not get into anything that has to do with serial killing -- I don't even like crime type of shows that aren't near this twisted, but I really do love Dexter. shock and all.

A agree with the PP who said (about Rita's previous marriage) it was part of the demonstration that her character had flaws and secretes too.

I really don't think that Rita could be like Harry. Harry had figured out who Dex was and was a real mentor to him. Rita never figured it out. Who know though, these people sure keep me guessing!!! I heard that they aren't going to start brainstorming for season 5 until February, ugh, the wait! Anything could happen!

I was dragged into watching the first episode of Dexter. DP wanted to watch it and I thought it sounded awful. It didn't realize it was a TV show, I thought it was a movie. I completely hooked after 10 minutes! I thought we were still watching a movie then suddenly the episode ended, without resolution!!! I screamed and I've been completely hooked since then. Hands down my favorite tv show ever.

Hubby also made me watch it. He said that since he watched True Blood with me, then I could watch Dexter with him. What's funny is that he quit watching halfway through this season and I kept on watching it.

That's what I'm going to do! I'm trying to decide if I should space it out and just watch one episode a week, that would get me to august, but I might just indulge and watch them all at once!

Won't Lost be starting again, soon? And Big Love? And The Tudors? (Mmmm...Jonathan Rhys Meyers!)

i feel like they made ritas character more 'saintly and ideal' this season to accommodate for all the ridiculous risks that Dexter took this season, he really pushed the envelope, and i think to really make us grieve after the season finale.
