*SPOILERS* I'm going to be talking about the last episode "Dex Takes a Holiday" (#4), so if you haven't seen that one, don't read any further!!
I have to say, I'm not enjoying this season very much. It's about to jump the shark for me, KWIM? I think the whole marriage-and-a-baby thing ruined it.
First of all: why is Dex pulling night shifts with the baby? He works full-time, and Rita is a SAHM, with two older kids in school all day. It's just stupid for Dexter to be getting up with the baby at night. It's stupid to the point of being distracting, but at least they seem to have moved on from that storyline.
Second: when did Rita become such an annoying, nagging, PITA? I really don't like her at all anymore, and I'm hoping to see her shrink wrapped to a table by the end of this season. She scolds Dexter like he's one of her kids, "You haven't been a very present father or husband lately". Oh, kiss it Rita. It's easy to be 'present' when you sleep a full 8 hours and then do nothing all day (that house is a mess). And then the way she was talking about the kids when she got back from the wedding "I wanted to strangle them" - she said that right in front of them!!
Also, why do they have to paint LaGuerta as this woman who is just desperate for a man? When she's done making doe eyes and sighing at Batista, will she move on to Masuka? (I might, actually, stay tuned for that.)
The last epi really blew chunks. First there's the woman that the Trinity killer killed. She's just driving along with that freak in her back seat? Seriously? Hasn't she seen Oprah? If someone is forcing you to a secondary location they are going to kill you. Fight back! Swerve around, crash your car, blow your horn. Even if he had a gun on her, she was in control of that car and could have done something. Passive women annoy me.
And Deb. Deb, Deb, Deb. How many seasons of Deb choosing the wrong man will we be forced to watch? Really, we've yet to be shown a ballsy, independent, strong female character on this show who doesn't need a man to prop her up. Except for Ellen Wolf...and look what happened to her. There was a time when I thought that the series would eventually end with LaGuerta figuring out who Dexter really was, but they've turned her into such a weak character that I can't see that happening now.
I know..."it's a show!", but the first two seasons were really clever, funny, exciting and suspenseful, as well as a little gory and scary. I was able to suspend my disbelief and enjoy the shows. Now, it's become predictable and tired and I spend much of the hour thinking, "it could never happen that way."
