Need to use a lot of black food die.....

I'm making a fondant cake for my son's birthday. I need to dye it black. I am able to get the black color....but I can taste the dye, so I want to use not so much dye. Do you think I can make some fondant with cocoa powder mixed with the marshmallow and then just use a bit of black food coloring to get the dark brown so it turns black?

My mom makes a chocolate cake with either european cocoa or dutch processed, I can't remember which. But the cake is very, very dark in color. I think any kind of dark chocolate powder would go a long ways in darkening your cake.

There is modeling chocolate. Do you have access to that?

be aware black colored icing may stain hands and things we found out the hard way with my sons first b day cake we had a lot of balck dyes hands
