RS size help

I am hoping someone can help me with my RS size. Would a 72" RS fit me?I am 5' 8 1/2" tall, with a long torso, and ~140 lbs. I have measured myself, but am still measuring-impaired, I guess.

Also, I've never worn a RS before, so I am not sure where I want the tail to hit, i.e. hip, thigh, etc. I don't think I want it really long, because it seems like that would just get in the way a lot.

I made mine that same length & it fits me with extra space. I'm the same height as you but (ahem) significantly fluffier.

Thanks!

I had emailed the WAHM and she said her only concern would be whether I would need to "adjust the sling so far out that the pocket would hit the rings." I guess the "pocket" part confused me...it's just a RS, so how is there a pocket?

I thought *most* people were about a size medium (76-80"), so I was worried about making a big mistake ordering a small. (in this case, 72". Her "small" is 70-74")

If you measure loosely from one shoulder to opposite hip, multiply that by two, then that is the amount of inches around. Subtract that from the 72" the sling will be. The remainder will be how far down the sling will go. So then you can measure from your shoulder to see how far down the rest of the sling will be. This should give you a good idea if it's long enough.

Let me know if I didn't explain that well! I'm sure I can find some instructions on-line for you!

thanks! It makes sense to me. I'll try to re-measure your way and see how that works.

If the tail is in the way, I wrapped mine around the rings from time to time.

It should be fine, depending on the size of the pocket. It really is all about how long you want the tail to be. I'm your size (a little heavier) and can use a small ring sling without a pocket just fine. I actually sometimes prefer the shorter ring sling, because it's adjustable, but the tail doesn't get in the way.

Well, it's an old style Maya redone by SBP, if that gives you any indication of where the pocket is (as for me, I have no clue, since this would be my first RS)

Yes, I like that the tail wouldn't be in the way...I just want to be able to adjust it. I'm worried I'll order it and then the pocket will get stuck in the rings. Jan at SBP said it's not likely, though, when I emailed her. But every other site I read for measuring says a 72" is too short for me, so just wondering before I click "order".

(BTW, 72" is all she has left in stock of the Maya fabric, so that's why all this trouble.)

That short ring sling I wrote about is an SBP that was made from a Girasol.

You know what? I'd ask Jan to take out the pocket. That way you won't have to worry about it at all. I know it's nice to have a pocket, but the wrap conversions she's done for me do not have a pocket and I get by just fine even with three small kids tagging along.

will I be sorry for ordering an "old-style" Maya? It's unpadded, but with Jan's shoulder pleats. It seems like a great deal for that nice fabric, especially for a first sling.

You'll have Jan's shoulder style, so it's all good!
