So I checked myself...

My cervix is easier to reach than it was a week ago, but still difficult (my finger is *just* too short!) I found one side of the opening, but couldn't find the other! And I dug around a bit, too. I'm not sure if that means I'm still a bit too posterior, or maybe too high, or maybe I"m dilated a few cms and I just couldn't reach the other side. I don't know.

But immediately after checking, I started cramping. No big deal, it's just from messing with my cervix, right? Well, that was 3 hours ago, and the cervix cramps have turned to contractions and haven't stopped yet! They're not strong, I haven't tried timing them yet, and I'm going to try to NOT time them for at least another hour. But this is the first time I've had decent cramps/contractions during the day, so that's something, right?

I'm going to continue with my burst of energy that I seem to have today, I've already put away dishes, ran another load through the dishwasher, started one load of laundry, stripped bed sheets, swept and mopped the living room, swept the dining room, swept the kitchen, and now I'm going to clean out the van.

Oh, and I took my maternity leave papers to my OB over lunch, it's official now, I'm "on the clock" for my 8 weeks of maternity leave. SIGH. Come on baby! I don't want to waste anymore time without you in my arms!!!! The timing is pretty decent, though, 8 weeks from now is the Monday of Thanksgiving week, so my first week back to work will be a 3-day work week at least, that's good! We have a nanny during the day, and she's really excited about having a new baby, but I think also a little nervous She'll be here the whole time I'm on maternity leave, so she'll have plenty of time to learn how to handle the new baby before I go back to work, so that'll be good.

There's another contraction! I will not look at the clock...I will not look at the clock...

I'm going to clean out the van now.

I hope this is it for you. I couldn't reach my cervix at all so I had DH check it and he let me know the changes that were occuring, he even checked me in labour because I was in such denial that I was actually having the baby. FWIW I lost it emotionally the day before I went into labour, my mw was there for my appointment and I just balled and balled. While I went to pee in the cup.... her and my DH said to each other that they doubted I would make it to the weekend (this was Wednesday morning), the next morning I had my first 'real' contractions and she was born Friday morning at 2am. Hang in there, it sounds like it is going to be really soon for you!!

Warmly,
Erin

2boyz, shall I remind you that my water broke right after I checked my cervix?

If you decide to check again, try a different position- I have found that squatting (like in the shower) doesn't allow me to really reach my cervix very well, but sitting on the toilet brought it into a totally different position every single time. Just something to think about...

At least your house will be clean, at any rate!! C'mon baby boy #3, mama is on the clock now, it's time to make your appearance

It was true with both my other pregnancies that right after I seriously lost it was when I went into labor. With both of them I went to my 38 week appt and left the appt crying, then I had the baby shortly after. I've been trying not to focus on that, because I was afraid that I would FORCE myself to lose it before I *really* lose it, you know? But yesterday was seriously my limit, I was sobbing off and on most of the evening/night.

Ian walked in on me during one of my sob fests, and he said "mommy what's wrong? Are you going to puke?" So cute!! Then he left and came back with a bowl and said "here's a bucket for you mommy, try not to get the carpet okay?" So darn cute!!!

My water has never broken. Well, with Ian the dr broke it when I was 8cm, with Connor it broke when I was pushing. So the last two times, at least, I had a good strong bag. I expect that again, although this whole pregnancy has just been...different! At this rate, I'm half expecting a baby GIRL to come out just as the final surprise, you know?!!

my water had never broken, either, with my other 3. my ob ruptured it all 3 times- she said i have bags of steel so you never know, well, at least i didn't it took me a minute to figure it out- big gush of fluid=broken water. dh asked me if i had peed

Well, things are continuing!! A few of these contractions are close to being painful, and they've been going on for over 6 hours now I haven't timed them at all, they feel irregular (or maybe I'm missing some). I still have a huge burst of energy, I've had it all day!

I am now in a lot of pain in my lower back/pelvis/pubic bone because I was talking to Ian's bus driver when he got home, turned around to realize that Connor had run off down the sidewalk. He was about 6 houses down already! I sent Ian running after him, but darn the little guy is fast! So I had to start jogging to catch him (he has hearing loss, so yelling for him to stop isn't really effective). Anyway, I caught him, brought him home, and all is well, but WOW that hurt a lot!!!!

Anyway...I'm excited that I'm still contracting...we'll see what happens as the night goes on.

Still going My back is starting to really bother me, I"m hoping it's from the mad dash I had to make after Connor ran down the street today, I had back labor both other times, and I was really hoping to avoid it this time!!

I really need to poop...or at least I think I do...my husband was rubbing my tail bone earlier and I said "ooh, push hard, I really think I need to poop!" and he immediately stopped all grossed out!

The boys are going to bed now, hopefully things will really pick up once they're asleep

NONONONONONONONONO!!!! COME BACK!!!!

I was going so good! I finally decided to start timing them around 8pm, and they were steady at about 8 minutes apart. In my labor with Connor they were like that for a few hours, then I got in the bath to try to calm what I thought was more prodromal, and when I got out of the bath they were suddenly less than 3 minutes apart and PAINFUL, turns out I was 8 cm already!

So I worked on folding more laundry for a while, then took Kaylee's advice and tried checking myself while sitting on the toilet. You're right, it's a LOT easier that way! I found both sides of my cervix, and found it very stretchy side to side, more than 2 finger widths (more like 3) but not so much front to back...is that odd? Maybe I just didn't have a good angle.

Anyway, now the contractions have SLOWED? WTF? It's almost 10pm here, and I'd say the contractions are more like 10-12 minutes apart now COME BACK!!!!

So I'm not sure what to do...take advantage of a "break" and get some sleep? Or go for a walk? Or get in the bath? Jump my husband??

Sigh...

ugh, ugh, ugh!! darnit, i was sure they were just going to crank up and a baby was going to come out!

well, i'd probably rest if i were you. just in case it is the real thing, just sorta un-coordinated right now, and a bunch of walking woud just tire you out. but if your dh was receptive, maybe that would be a good use of some energy

c'mon baby boy, don't peter out on us now!

Well, the last two-three have been 10 minutes almost on the nose, so maybe they're not gone completely. I am definitely going to go grab my husband, if he declines, then it's fun in the shower for me

There IS a baby in there, isn't there? This isn't just some funky tumor that moves?
