facebook ad

The facebook ad is making the site load really slowly because of all the images. Is there a way to change it or stop viewing it. I'm running a T1 and have to reload pages 3 and 4 times because it times out with errors.

New Facebook ad takes forever to load

Please please please remove the new "mothering magazine on facebook" ad!!! It is on every single page and it takes forever to load.

Perhaps you could put it on just the front page or something, it is seriously making me not want to come to the forums anymore!

thanks.

We are still in the experimental stages of adding some social networking features and any input is welcome. Thank you for letting us know.

Also when facebook is down, which it has been a bunch lately for some reason, it's messing up the forums and sending me to a page-could-not-load screen. Not fun.

Well, if you're accepting feedback...

The entire portion up top takes to long to load. It would be nice to have a skin that was free of it.

Also, it's frustrating that the "notices" is always up there. There must be some way to see the Notices, but not load them every time? Or maybe have them at the bottom instead...

And, there are no toilet seat covers in the restrooms. That is the third time this week.

It also seems to mess with facebook itself. Do they access FB info? I tend to keep both MDC and FB open during the day and pop back and forth. But the past few days it's been really hard to get FB to load. But it works fine at home when I don't have both open.

Plus, it is creepy that it's always people I know somehow on FB that show up in the ad. They've got to be feeding off of each other.

If you are logged into facebook it does show some of your friends.

If you are not logged into facebook then it will not.

Facebook is storing a cookie in your browser and that is what it is picking up. Mothering hasn't revealed any member information.

We may add some additional Social Networking tools to MDC but anything involving linking your account here to your account on facebook/twitter or other sites will require someone to fill out that information. We will not reveal any personal information or link your profile here to any other site without your express permission and participation.

It does have pic of people up there, but it isn't revealing who anyone is on MDC.

I expirimented a bit. And being logged in to MDC definitely interferes with my ability to get Facebook to even load the screen. When I totally log out, it's fine. Just FYI.

But how are the three people that I am "friends" with on FB showing up in the facebook ad on MDC? Is it because of my IP aDress? Honestly, I don't care all that much, because I figure everything on the internet is connected. But I am curious as to how it works...

Facebook is so beyond me.
I lack both time and friends.

Facebook is storing a cookie in your browser.

Log out of facebook and your friends will not show up there.

10. About Advertisements on Facebook

Our goal is to deliver ads that are not only valuable to advertisers, but also valuable to you. In order to do that, you agree to the following:

1. You can use your privacy settings to limit how your name and profile picture may be associated with commercial or sponsored content served by us. You give us permission to use your name and profile picture in connection with that content, subject to the limits you place.
2. We do not give your content or information to advertisers without your consent.
3. You understand that we may not always identify paid services and communications as such.

I haven't fussed with my privacy settings to block my Facebook account in ads yet, so I am no help there until I do.

ETA: Looks like here is where to go - http://www.facebook.com/privacy/?view=feeds&tab=ads and change the 2 dropdowns to no one. Somebody with more experience with the FB privacy settings may be better equipped to answer.

I'm just tired of all the stuff up top. I'd like to come on here and see threads and discussions. Not ads and notices. I pay for an ad free experience, and these things are really annoying.

On other vBulletin boards I'm a member of, you can close the notices so you don't have to scroll past 15 of them like I do every time I reload new posts. I'm on dial-up and this affects the speed I'm able to surf at significantly.

The facebook thing is not an ad, it is just a widget we are trying for fun. It is just an experiment and not in stone.

The notices aren't ad's either. Still annoying. If it were to the side, or at the bottom, it would be less annoying.

I haven't seen myself.

I like it, too

I haven't noticed anything causing it to be wonky...

I have set my FB profile to not use my picture in ads, though....

I do like it but I have noticed a bit of slowing.
