Kind of bummed I fell off the wagon today, but just with 24 cents. I didn't really need the items either. I was just "looking" at the clearance section. I must stay out of clearance sections.

24 cents!

Tiffany -- That is not falling off the wagon, that is merely riding the wagon over a bump.

Apparently my strategy for this month is to spend all the money I have now, so that by the end of the month there is nothing left to spend. I'll have a nice long string of no-spend days once we are bRoKe.

---> at myself.

I went shopping for clothes and really had to fight to prevent myself from buying some $100 Pajar boots and a $300 North Face jacket.

Seriously??? I have boots already and I bought a new (very nice) winter coat last year. I would have to dip into our savings to buy these things.

Those of you who were with us last month -- I just bought a $140 raincoat LAST month. Do I need more winter gear???? No.

I don't know why I do this. This is compulsive shopping at its finest.

I'm really glad I have this thread to come on here and talk about this stuff. Because writing it down here in brown and white really makes me see how ridiculous it was for me to be trying that jacket on. Much less buying it.

My closet is literally bursting at the seams right now. I probably should be consigning some of that stuff. Then if I sell it, I can use the consignment money if I want to buy new stuff for myself.

Today should be a good day -- I'm running a half-marathon in the morning so I'll be too tired to shop this afternoon.

01.. $61 for kid winter gear from Sierra Trading Post
02..
03.. $51 yet more clothes for me, $14 yoga book
04..
05..

My Goals:

1/20 No Spend days
0/5 Let the car rest days

Off to church shortly, then on a pumpkin purchasing jaunt. Lots of free fun @ the pumpkin farm, where we can play w/ farm animals + hike all about. Will be heading to Target, but plan to stick with the boring list (cat litter, cat food, lightbulbs...).

Enjoy the day!

Take good care,
Kim

Well, my no-spend plan is seeing a little spending this weekend. We are headed out to go camping tonight, our first family trip of the summer. I know it is technically fall and we are lame that this is the first time we have gotten out as a family. Anyway, the weather is gorgeous and I am willing to spend $20 on a campsite and much needed time away.

Oct 3 -- 18.55 thrift store clothes

My strategy too.

10/3 $110 groceries.

Will post the full update later. Keep getting stuck on little things like buying my mom headphones so she can use my old ipod. I really want to do this! And pay my library fines so I can get out more books. HELLO, the car is in the shop right now because the Check Engine light was on! And we still have to pay the doula! Not to mention Christmas and DD's birthday. Will someone please tell me we have NO MONEY?

I am Vicki, have 4 girls, I did this last month, and am so proud of myself! Spent $1163 LESS in September than the month before.

My goals--Short term goals right now, and additonal $1000 in savings by the end of the month. Pay off 1 small credit card.
How I plan to do this....
Not eating out!! Once or twice a month for DH and I to have a date night, all of us out to eat only when "kids eat free". Buying necessities and really thinking about purchases outside of necessities (will wait 24 hours for anything over $10), "gasp" cutting out my paper towel addiction- been doing great on this. Having at least 2 no-drive days a week.

My key:
No Spend
No Driving
Budgeted Spending/Necessities/Thought Over Purchase
Unnecessary Spending
: Exercise Day

Groceries $177

Successfully made it out of Target with nothing extra sneaking into the cart; everything in there was pretty darn necessary. Funny that a couple of years ago my Target visits were at least weekly; now I might go every other month, and it is far more a chore than fun.

Take good care,
Kim

Extending a (virtual) hand to hoist you back up on the wagon! Many of us would not be here without your support and encouragement Pru, so there is no way we are leaving you behind!

Hope running yourself to exhaustion as a spending avoidance strategy was successful; tried the same approach yesterday (w/ just a 10-K) and it worked beautifully.

My Key/Goals:
= no spend 2/10
= spent within budget
= frivolous spending
= eating out 1/3
0/$35 Halloween supplies (costumes already purchased, this is only for treats and light sticks - enough light sticks to last us the entire year)

10/1 BUT ran into a palm tree so must pay $500 insurance deductible next week when I take van to the shop. Grrrr.
10/2 $7.35 Little Caesar's pizza - but I was craving it for 2 weeks now and it was soooo good I can't regret it!

Did my race and my strategy worked...was too tired to get off the couch the rest of the day.

The girls loved it because they had Mommy trapped and could bombard me with board games and craft projects.

October 1 - ($10 Breakfast & Lunch)
October 2 - ($12 lunch)
October 3 - ($226 Groceries)
October 4 - ($40 Groceries)

My goals and key:

$266/$625 Groceries/Household items
$22/$100 Frivolous Spending (including lunches at work)

- No Spend
- Budgeted Spending
- Unbudgeted Spending

I spent quite a bit on groceries this weekend, but some of it was stockpiling for the winter. Peppers were on sale for a really good price so I bought a bunch, chopped them up and froze them. There was also some good deals on meat so I bought more of that than I normally would. We should have enough to get us two weeks with just a quick trip for milk and some produce.
