No-Chain Double Crochet Video?

I can't really figure out what I'm doing wrong trying to make this foundation chain:

I thought I had it but then *poof*, it's gone, and I can't figure out WTH I'm doing . I reeeeeeally need to do some homework so I have to stop trying to figure it out. Does anybody know where there's a good video for this technique?

Every video I find on you tube shows to chain4, not 3. Everyone says 3 is for HDC. I am frustrated with this same thing. I have looked and looked and looked and this is the only page that says chain 3. I don't have any videos easily accessible right now, but just look up no chain foundation double crochet. I also found it helps if I use a stitch marker to mark the chain stitch - the one where you pull through just one. At least for the first several.
