Pie Crust Recipe

My mom gave me a can of cherry filling. My daughters have been bugging me to make a cherry pie out of it. I don't know how to make pie.

I have a glass pie pan my mom gave me a while back. I have white sugar, shortening, butter, white and whole wheat flour. Can anyone provide me with a recipe? I'm a bit depressed today and feel completely unmotivated to do anything, so I thought baking a pie for the first time would be a healthy distraction.

simple is key...
I don't have mine handy but it is really close to this: http://simplyrecipes.com/recipes/perfect_pie_crust/

One bit of advice, work the dough as little as possible to get a nice flaky crust.

I don't own a food processor or mixer of any sort. How could I mix frozen butter in the pastry otherwise? (without, of course, hurting my hands and wrists).

I fail so much today. I also don't have a rolling pin and just thought of that when I wondered how I'd make the crust dough flat.

Do you have a glass jar? You can use that as a rolling pin.

Oh, do you happen to have any graham crackers or cookies (even oreos work)?

If so, you can make a MUCH easier pie crust.

Or, forget the pie crust all together.

Dump the filling into the pie pan & make a crumble topping:

1 1/4 c flour
1/2 c sugar
6 tablespoons of butter, cut into small pieces (like small dice)

Mix dry ingredients together. Drop in your butter. You can 'cut' it in using a fork, 2 knives or your fingers. If using your fingers, grab a small amount of flour and a piece or two of butter & rub against one another. When it looks like coarse meal, you are done 'cutting in' the butter. Sprinkle on top of your filling and pop into the oven at 300* for about 30 minutes, until topping is golden brown & filling is bubbly.

You can also add any spices you like to the topping. For apple filling I love cinnamon, for berries, ginger or nutmeg is good.

I HATE HATE HATE making pie crusts. Soooo much work. So I make crumbles. Super simple, and yummy. Best of all, I can use left over fruit, chopped up, under the crumble for frugal desserts.

To answer this question: Grate your frozen butter, then mix into your pastry. Works just as well.

I like the way you think.

No cookies, no graham crackers, and no nutmeg in this house. But I think I can work with this anyway.

I *do* have a mini grater that just might work.

Do you have cream cheese? You can mix:

1/2 c cream cheese
1 1/2c flour
1/2 c butter
1/4 c sugar
1/2 t salt

together then pat in the bottom of a pan (or roll it out with whatever cylindar you have--I've used beer bottles, wine bottles, thermoses, jars--whatever)

I don't have any of those, either. I don't even remember when I last bought wine, or if I ever even have.
