Prenatal Vitamins/Supplements?

Hi All,

Just curious what kind of prenatal vitamins and/or supplements you might be taking? I've been working with an acupuncturist/holistic physician this time around and she has me on Thorne Complete Prenatals, vitamin D, EPA/DHA and a multivitamin for extra B vitamins and calcium. My OB also has me taking a daily baby aspirin. I've never taken so many pills in my life!!!

I'm only taking folic acid. I am trying to get a really balanced diet, although yesterday the scales were definitely tipped in the biscuit (cookie) favour!
Will see how I get on with that and lots and lots of water!

I'm taking New Chapter Perfect Prenatals. It's what I took last pg and I was still on them because I'm still nursing DS. I really like them and highly recommend them because they are a whole foods vitamin. I get them half off and you can PM me if you'd like the link.

I'm also taking a ton of supplements for various reasons, though not so many pills as last time. This time it's lots of powders and drinks. I'm taking Brewer's Yeast, Maca, Progesterone Cream, Liquid Chlorophyll , Cod Liver Oil, Butter Oil, Cal/Mag, Wheat Bran, and the occasional Emergen-C (until I can get my hands on some Acerola powder).

I wish I could trust myself and our food sources enough to get all my needs met by food alone, but I have a mild eating disorder and just don't get what my body needs. Also, it's cheaper to buy a bottle of Cod Liver Oil than to buy enough fish to get the vitamins I need from it.

I take New Chapter prenatals and love them. I also drink a cup or two of organic rose hip tea for extra vitamin C. And I'm waiting on the mail to deliver my lovely handcrafted organic pregnancy tea from an herbalist mama! I'm finishing up a bottle of Spectrum Fish Oil but am thinking of switching to a fermented brand I keep reading about in the Traditional Foods forum.
Sihaya, do you take the fermented clo? Also, I'd love the link to the New Chapter discount!

PM sent, henny_penny. I do not take the fermented CLO only because I have old CLO left over that I want to use up that still has the natural vitamins in it. When I eventually do use it all up (I have a half-full bottle and a still-sealed one), then I'll be buying the fermented.

I too take New Chapter Perfect Prenatals and love them - started taking them while ttc. I also take 1 baby aspirin, extra calcium and flax oil.

Sihaya, can I get that link too? Prenatals are so expensive.

Thank you, Sihaya!!

I usually like to get my vitamins from eating good food, but I still take cod liver oil every day and if I feel my diet wasn't good enough one day, I take New Chapter prenatals because it is a whole food vitamin.

Can someone point to the cheapest place to buy the perfect prenatals?

I like Rainbow Lite's Prenatal One - once a day. I can get them at Kroger or Walgreen's.

I am taking Rainbow Light, as well - have been taking them on and off for years now

I also take a probiotic twice daily and calcium/ magnesium at night. I drink an Emergen-C at least once/ day.

I have never heard of taking baby aspirin while pregnant...what is that for?

My OB advised me to take it. She says it helps with any potential blood clotting disorders. I don't know that I have a clotting disorder but she says, "It can't hurt and it might help."

I'm taking a MegaFoods Women's Multivitamin (whole foods based), probiotics, and a fish oil supplement.

I may consider adding more soon if I feel like my body needs it.

I take the Rainbow Light prenatals and fish oil.

Has anyone tried liquid prenatals? I'm going to check with my mid wife as I really don't like pills and would prefer a liquid/shake prenatal

I didn't know they made liquid ones. The regular pills make me really urpy, pregnant or not, so I'm taking some prescription chewables. My tummy tolerates them pretty well. I can't remember the brand.

They are cute little hearts that smell vaguely like chocolate though.

Hmm, I think they are called "The Perfect Prenatal" from Whole foods. You take them 3 x a day, which totally does not bother me, as they are the first ever prenatal to not upset my stomach. Love them

The ones I ordered are from vitacost:

So every day since I've been pregnant I've taken my prenatal vitamin, Nature Made Prenatal Multi. And everyday (almost) I get diarrhea. WTF? I wracking my brain for answers. What to Expect says that basically I have to be more careful of what I'm eating which just made me paranoid. I finally googled it and apparently, my prenatal has PROPYLENE GLYCOL in it!!!!! A stool softener!
Dr. Wikipedia says:
"May cause reproductive and fetal effects. Laboratory experiments have resulted in mutagenic effects. Exposure to large doses may cause central nervous system depression. Chronic ingestion may cause lactic acidosis and possible seizures."

WTF?

I take Cranberry tablets, Vit D, B12, and Rainbow Prenatal one a day... I will switch to a more extensive prenatal once I am done with this bottle (which will be soon).. my midwife has me on an extensive plan (supplements and nutrition specific for Alaskan mamas which can be a bit different than other people) but I don't want to order $100+ until I am sure this pregnancy will stick (plus I want to use up what I have!).
