Hi Becky,

Might you mean ART? (assistive reproductive technologies) I think that's generally used more in reference to IVF, specifically, though I'm not 100% certain.

I know nothing about the site you mentioned but did want you to know that you don't need a sperm bank that's local in order to use donor sperm. Sperm banks ship sperm in nitrogen tanks (man in a can, as someone here lovingly termed it ). They'll ship them to your home (usually) if you're doing at-home insems or to a doc's office if you have the help of a doc.

Definitely check out the queer TTC thread and you're sure to learn a lot about the ins and outs of donor conception.

Take care and good luck!

thanks i'll do that , i best get as much info as possible before i start trying.
i'll be doing it at home probebly i think that will be best as then i don't need to get my mum to watch caden, cos she will only ask questions and i'm not telling her anything untill i actually get pregnant and then i'm not going to tell her the truth cos she doesn't understand why i would want a big familly cos she struggled with just 2.

Oh, but you're in the UK! The laws are different there, much more restrictive than in the US and Canada which is where almost all of the queer TTCers are in this forum.

You should ask in your tribal area about getting access to donor sperm and how to go about it. My understanding is that it's not a matter of buying, but of qualifying and being approved, but I might be very, very wrong on that.

I've heard of other terms, I'm not sure what AID is, but my recent visit to the fertility clinic they used "TDI" - therapeutic donor insemination, and "ADI" meant "anonymous donor insemination." I don't really know what the difference was or if they were interchangeable, but the terms were new to me.

Since you're new to the forum, welcome! I would advise you to go poking around in all the queer TTC and donor threads, most of the information you will need is there.

The single mamas by choice thread, within the single parentingforum, will also have lots of info for you and you may want to join that thread.

(I wish someone would start a 'conceiving with donor gametes' thread in TTC...I don't feel comfortable in that forum most of the time, because of my gender, and because it's hard for me to see everyone graduating from there wihtin minutes, but you could do that to build a community for yourself.)

(Yikes! I totally failed to notice your location, Becky.) My apologies!

Since it may be tricky to get anonymous donor sperm, you might want to look into the possibility of a known donor. Again, as Papa said, there are tons of threads on Queer Parenting about known vs. unknown donors and the ins and outs related to those different choices.

Good luck!

i think it probebly was adi rather than aid i'm just a bit dizzy at times,
i'll just have to do lots more reasearch on the subject, i might be going over to the states next summer so if i've not already found somwhere over here could try over there.
might be an idea to start a thread on ttc i'm pretty sure there must some other brits wanting the same info on this site also putting a thread on my tribal area sounds like a good idea too thanks
