NY Bill Introduced to Make Mandatory Flu Shots Permanent

for health care workers....Right now the 'state of emergency' is dictating the mandatory shots - but they are busy behind the scenes trying to make it a law...http://capwiz.com/a-champ/issues/ale...=ML&azip=10030

Quote:
Governor David Paterson and Commissioner Richard Daines, the two biggest enemies of vaccine rights in America, have a bill in Albany right now, S 3256/A 8133 that would permanently eliminate healthcare workers right to decide whether they get a flu shot of not.

The current state action being protested today in Albany is the result of an illegal emergency order. These bills would make that taking of rights permanent.
Richard Daines tried to do this last year with children birth - 18. He introduced a bill to make it illegal not to follow the CDC schedule - whether or not they were in school. He failed then, and is now focusing on health care workers...Can you see where this is going? This new bill nullifies exemptions for health care workers.

I had a feeling this would happen. They'll piggyback off the current flu hysteria to make permanent legislature. Are Paterson and Daines getting any kickbacks from any pharmaceutical companies? I'm just wondering aloud here.

I'd bet quite a large sum they are.

Had to fudge my location information since I am in California, but I sent a letter outlining my concerns with this legislation.

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest bit.. especially considering how much of a mess our state is in, budget-wise.

ugh... Meh... I'm so sick of NY and all our crazy requirements.

How the #$^%^ can they make a shot MANDATORY when its' not even the same shot every year, and each year it's untested- what if that year's strain isnt' effective and/or has a higher risk of side effects than those in prior years? HCW are people who are likely to know the ins and outs of each year's shots, and I would assume they're quite capable of making their own risk/benefit analysis each year.

Oh, BTW, is there a place for me to email people in Albany to express my displeasure and unwillingness to vote for anybody who pushes this through?

ETA: I just followed the link and emailed the appropriate people in Albany. I should have probably looked at the link before posting, huh?

I hear ya...and the scariest thing is that the next targeted 'institution' as a place where disease spreads will be the schools. I recently moved from NY (yeah!) but am still fearful of what's going on there. Health departments around the country are watching to see what happens with this.

That is so absolutely ridiculous! Why can't people wake up & smell the roses to what's happening to this country? Why can't they see that their rights are being stripped away, one by one?

If they get it passed, there's no way it should stand if someone takes it to court. It's just a matter of someone willing to sink the money in to do so.

well, we hope this is true....however, there is a precedent with the forced small pox vaccinations that if the unvaccinated can put others at risk, their individual constitutional rights do not outweigh the safety of society as a whole. you don't think they could successfully argue this for mandated vaccines for health care workers? I do.

but lets hope it doesn't come to that and the bill never gets out of the health committee.

I think we're getting so used to our rights being stripped that it's reached the point of apathy. Why fight what will eventually happen anyway? As for myself and my DF, we'll go live in the mountains before being forced into this crap. We've discussed it, and we mean it.

Realistically we have no rights at all. We have privileges that can be taken away at will by those in charge.

I guess this means I may never work as a healthcare provider in NYS again...better apply for my CT nursing license.
