I lurve Autumn! MMMMmmmmm.

The girls were nutty yesterday so I missed the "mindful mama" meeting (a friend just started a children welcome mindfullness/sitting practice at one of the nearby EcoVillages) but I mindfully consumed a nut brown ale and kept the kiddos from killing each other. That should count, right?

Welcome to everyone who just "found" the thread, or just decided to jump in! :

DoK- glad the Roo made it through the night despite the monitor. Yay for silks! What a great idea to blend it with the book shows... Barefoot and Silks work so well together. Maybe suggest Robin Goodfellow as a costume? Sort of the "boy fairy" look, though inviting that puckish energy into your lives right now may be a bit much! Though maybe not... I had a real "fling" with Puck in college and although the experience was a whilrwind, somehow everything seemed to end well.

That reminds me... I have an ancient 3CPO action figure (real metal joints, etc, though I feel oooooold describing a childhood toy as ancient!). I used to carry it as a talisman. I found the action figure by the side of the road after a particularly hard 24 hours (a fire at the camp I worked at in which we couldn't find one of the 4yos in my group, then being hit by a DWI car in a construction zone while driving home from the camp, then being hit by ANOTHER car the following morning when that driver fell asleep and crossed three lanes of traffic before hitting me... which is when I found the c3po). Anyway, my frazzled brain realized that although all sorts of craziness happens around C3PO, he's always ok. I still carry him in the glove box, but maybe this sort of talisman would be helpful to others? Maybe not a C3PO, but something to remind you that even after having your head put on backwards it's possible to be better off down the road?

Then again, I had a Tigger statue on my altar for years to represent the God so you may want to take my idea with a grain of salt. (or a nut brown ale )

Terra- I can decorate with any and all Autumnal joys, but this pumpkin thing is more worrisome in terms of living life in October in rural NY. All the stores have big pumpkin displays, dd1's waldorf school is needle felting pumpkins, our farmer's market has piles of pumpkins! I have to pick up groceries and our csa share and bring dd2 to dd1's harvest fest and all that. Who would have thought that plain old pumpkins would be a trigger? She walked past all the crazy stuff at Lowes (the giant rats, the grim reaper with sound effects, the shelob, the huge cat inflated yard thing) only to melt down at the orange pumpkin candy baskets. Poor kiddo! What a goofy.

Ok, my brain just wibbled... I forget all the other stuff i wanted to respond to.

Must get more coffee!

Cari - sorry to hear about the rat!

DOK - hope DS is okay! Thinking lots about you!

Jennifer - Dianic school? Haven't heard of that before. I do know about the tradition though. I have a great book from that tradition that had some great ideas I am hoping to use soon (Women's Rites, Women's Mysteries).

I need someone to come here and get me moving. I think I am so exhausted from being on the go so much lately. Sadly, tonight as soon as DH walks in the door, I will be giving him a kiss and a kiss to DD and I hop in the car for my drive to the military base. This weekend on course, we are doing more military writing, more talk about orders and a test on them too.

I need to clean this place but I don't even know where to start today. I also need to go to the store to make sure DH and DD have food this weekend. It is supposed to rain today (at some point) so I should go before the downpour.

I am thrilled at all the activity on here! It's wonderful to see so many people coming together!

What are the plans for the Full Moon? Here, it will be on Sunday...I will be coming home to my family! I don't know what I will be doing exactly until Sunday morning.

Thanksgiving here is next weekend. I have that weekend off from the course! Fantastic! Can I say we will be cleaning? lol Things looked great not long ago but it doesn't take long for it to drive me nuts.

Thanks for the concern about my tooth - it actually isn't reacting to food/drink/pressure or anything else. Still going to the dentist though and hoping for the best.

Book Review: So I did finish reading "The Earth Path" a little while back. I did enjoy it because it gave me lots of different ways to commune with nature. If you are not into politics or activism, then it might be a tough read. I did learn lots about nature too from the info but of course, nothing will ever replace being in nature.

I have moved on to "The Twelve Wild Swans". So far, so good...and I am excited about the format! Hopefully I can read some while on course.

believe me, introspection and re-evaluating i have no issue with (though they've been a huge part of my life for the past 4 years, and a change might be nice, lol)... it's the out and out backstabbing and aggressive nastiness of the past month that got to me. as for the coming out stronger, you'd better freaking believe it!

speaking of astrology, the full moon articles are up, and as it's my very favorite full moon, i think i'll go read them and plan a very special birthday full moon treat.

hugs and happy pumpkin (ale--no, i didnt make it myself, but ask me that again in a few years!) vibes to all. i'll probably be off for a while so i dont poop on the thread too much, cause i may not be annoying you, but i'm down right pissing myself off, lol. happy birthday to all my fellow libras!!!

Wow this thread took off!

Welcome all the new posters!! I have my fall family altar set up. We just add to it when we want to. It's on top of the mantle of our fireplace and not an obvious altar, but we love it! Very seasonal! It's finally cooling down here. It was 58 when I got up, and today's high will be about 85. So it's starting to be nice outside. The marine layer is getting thicker in the mornings too. Sometimes it gets too thick to really drive, but people do anyway because they are use to it here. And it doesn't last for very long. It's called fog for most of the country except here. Coming off the ocean, they call it the "marine layer". Go figure. Just another thing to add to our 4 daily weather forecasts. We have coastal, inland, desert, and mountain. EVERYDAY. LOL. I can't wait for next payday. My hubby will be home, and I want to take the kids to the pumpkin patch here! We had so much fun last year, and daddy was gone for it. We want to take him this year. Although, I could have a newborn by then. I'm not "due" until Samhain, but I've been contracting for 3 days now. I already had my 2nd baby by this time. So it's still very much a waiting game right now. Glad my costume will be an easy one! I'm either going to be a pregnant witch, or a witch with a newborn. My DD (almost 4 yrs.) says yesterday that I still need to get a wand for my costume though. I bought a butternut squash at the grocery store yesterday. Does anyone have an easy recipe that I can make with that? I've only eaten one once a few years ago and remember that is was really good. And for some reason, I am CRAVING some really good fall recipes with pumpkins and squashes. Even thinking about going up to Starbucks to get their pumpkin coffee drink. Lol.

Sorry to here that Roo has a fright of pumpkins! I've never heard of that. And what a time of year to have it too! There's 2 months of pumpkins. They are big for thanksgiving too. Can you make one with a silly smile on it that isn't a scary face?

I would LOVE to get my house cleaning for the fall weather and may start today. With my sciatica pinching in this pregnancy and the whole 4th baby and softer ligaments, my active doing things doesn't get so active anymore. Otherwise I can't walk for the rest of the day or the next day. But we'll see what I get done. Starting this morning while it's still fairly cool. Says its still about 65 right now.

I am looking forward to the new little ones being born this month. I know someday soon I will log in and there will be an update.

Clay- pumpkin- hrmmm- would she play a game where she held something pumpkin like and tried to guess what it was? Once she has an aversion does it last a while or is is short lived? Is the smell upsetting to her? Just thinking out loud. I know aversions are hard to work with, because I had one to chickens for years, and there was no way you could ever get me near one and I was an adult.

He's been losing a little weight & acting unwell and this evening when we were watching a movie I noticed one rat where he shouldn't be and asked dh to go replace him. When he did he noticed 2/3 rats int he top cage going mental, and then found Mocha.

He had obviously *just* passed. This is the second rat we've lost, the first time he handled it well.. wondering how this will go because he is SO attached to them now. Seriously, more often than not he wanders past with a rat or two on his shoulder hehehe. And he does all their feeding & watering and helps clean their cages. He's a pretty dedicated rat keeper

RIP little Mocha, gnaw yourself silly now (he was famous for EATING the wooden nest box we got for them, nutty rat!)
Sorry for the loss of Mocha.

I think you must mean Ro (not my Roo).

Ds and I did something really fun with the PC Tool Turn About. Instead of putting cooking utensils in it, we put art/craft supplies in it! He LOVES it. Seriously loves it. I have another one for my kitchen stuff but now I want an extra for office/art supplies for my desk.
Let me see if I can post a pic....brb.
Art supply idea

Cari, I'm so sorry about Mocha's death.
I had rats in college and loved them. I have been thinking about getting the kids a couple but our only local pet store is Petsmart and frankly, I want nice, tame, well bred and cared for rats.
Our cage pets are hermit crabs and the kids adore them.

I take classes through the Re-Formed Congregation of the Goddess in Madison, Wisconsin. Prior to having kids I went there a couple of time a year for intensive classes but now I'm doing a couple years online.
I still have plans to get to the gathering for next spring.

I cannot imagine how hard it would be to have a child with a fear of pumpkins. You can't go to the gas station even without running into them here.

I intend to be a witch for ToTing this year. I need a cloak anyway.

DH is just like that. I ask him why he doesn't just push us back over. "I didn't want to disturb you." Shove dammit! I doubt we'll even wake up.

Well making felted pumpkins is actually a fabulous idea. Also pumpkin pie. Does she like pumpkin pie? I' try sitting her clear across the room, and letting her watch you make a pie from fresh pumpkin. How about those cute little marshmallow candy pumpkins? Um... oh stickers? How about cutting our paper pumpkins and making some holiday cards? Pumpkin sugar cookies? What else is innocent and non-threatening???......

I'm going to be out in the swamp collecting. Is it too cliche for a witch to be in the swamp on the October full moon, carrying around a bunch of frogs? As far as ritual goes, I'm cleansing my whole house and recharging my crystals. I feel like my inlaws tapped all my good energy and left their negativity all over the house. I wanted to wait until the full moon and feel more powerful.

Me too! I love butternut squash soup-and I'm planning on trying this recipe:

We normally go crazy for halloween costumes-no Trick or Treating yet since no kids, but we always end up at a party of some sort. However, I haven't thought about it this year. I have plenty of witchy clothes, so I will probably just be a witch. Last year's costume had a corset, so there's no way this belly is fitting this year!

Here's a cute ravelry link: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sam-hain

It's crocheted and it's a free rav download there at that page.

We do a balancing act around here every October. Middle boy LOVES everything harvest related and is scared witless by just about anything halloween related. He freaks out if we go to the store and they have one of those motion-activated things if they are the least bit creepy.

He's always been this way. Always. He doesn't do trick or treating either, because it is scary to him.

I'm hopeful that as a family we can move to celebrating Samhain and All Souls Day and pretty much dump all the halloween references.

Afternoon ladies.

Went and picked up my EBT card this morning. Then, went to the store with my Mom and we got stuff for beef stew for dinner, thankfully she didn't ask me to use my card cause its only got $46 on it until the 6th. I also picked up a new poster board and I will be creating a new Treasure Map type thing. I put the old one in the closet for now.

I have no idea what to put on my new one. Its supposed to be all about me and I have trouble focusing on JUST little ole me.

ROFLOL I almost spit soda on the monitor!

I must be feeling that energy as well; today I cleaned the upstairs and main level and have been baking and cooking up a storm the past couple of days. The basement is next on the list, and the mere thought of that mess makes me shudder! But my soaps and salts are there and I really need to get back to work on them, so I guess I know what's on the list this weekend.

Ds is loving the breads - banana and pumpkin so far. I also picked up some cute mini pumpkins and gourds to start decorating the house with. We just moved to a new state a couple of months ago, and right now we're renting. It's a tighter squeeze than we're used to, and there are literally NO trees in the yard (!) so decorating is becoming a bit of a challenge!

I've been looking more and more into the different paths to walk, and so far I've found one that I need to investigate further. The good thing about our new area (Appleton WI) is that the area seems a lot more receptive about this type of thing than where we moved from!

Thanks for all the warm welcomes!
We were just driving through Appleton last weekend! And you live in the pagan capitol of the Midwest!! I'm jealous.

And now I feel like making pumpkin bread. Yum!

Forgot to suggest this in my earlier post. Sorry, things are a bit scattered here today! LOL DH had the windows open and I got chilled (gee, it's only 51 degrees here - think please honey!) so I was snuggled up in bed for a moment, just randomly remembered that I wanted to post this, and DH decided to call our dog on the bed to keep me company. Our dog is 10 yrs old and doesn't move or hear too well, so DH karate-chop smacked the bed really hard to get his attention....not realizing my FOOT was there! Ouch...

Anyway, every year we have a tradition that a close freind and old neighbor started me on when I was first out on my own. I've always loved it as do the kids and it may help with the pumpkin aversion. We always make pumpkin cookies - sugar cookies cut out in the shape of pumpkins. They have orange frosting (if you run the knife right you can even get the "stripes" on them!), with green or brown for the stems. The eyes are m&m's, the nose is a piece of candy corn and the mouth is a piece of cut red string licorice. Maybe making these would help a little?

Uh, would it be wrong to cut out a section(s) of my old TM and put it on the new one???? I really like the honoring my cycles/pregnant section I made and the parenting one as well. Idk......they are just so pretty and I hate to have them *poof*, yk?

Still haven't cut or glued anything yet. Trying to get into a more positive place.

Thank you mamas, We do adore our ratties. We told Connor the minute he woke up this morning.. he ran to the cage to check, and came back & said no you mean Peaches died. *sigh* sure enough, we lost a second rat during the night. He had been a bit .. lethargic, earlier, but we just figured he had been sleeping when C picked him up... he was young & healthy. Connor seems to be handling it ok, he's sad, but he's playing with the other rats... and we'll go bury the to lost ones today.

That is all the more reason you NEED to do it. I would try to avoid stuff from the oldmap, considering the associations that map has for you... see if you can put one together based on the NOW, and try to ignore all the past stuff.

Oh, no! I am so sorry-that is awful. At least he's handling it well.

Welcome to all the new friends here!

Sorry, I've been really quiet this week...though I've read everything. With dh off for the week time (and, um, sanity, clear-thinking, moment to myself...) is in short supply.

Making some big life changes too (nothing related to said, adored, dh, though) but I'll share about that later on when I've had more time to process and think.

Oh, is it just me or is there suddenly a ton of new pop-up ads? Everytime I open a new MDC window over the last several days there's a new pop-up...seems mostly from netflix. What's that about?

blessings all,

I'm thinking about printing out these lyrics and posting them on the new board:

http://www.cowboylyrics.com/lyrics/a...way-26796.html

So far, I have not cut out any pictures of babies or a house......this is odd to me. I'm not cutting out much. Its almost like I am blocked.
