Here's my stash- now what do I take to the hospital?

Hi everyone!

I am glad to say that I am finished buying my newborn stash (aside from a few covers). I was wondering if you could tell me, IYO, what would you take to the hospital, and why? We're CDing from birth, we're only having a 12 hour hospital stay also. I might bring extra in case I end up staying the 24 hours.

Here's my stash.
Prefolds:
13 CottonBabies Preemie PFs
6 GMD Orange edge PFs
6 PB&E Itty Bitty PFs
Pockets:
2 BGOS
1 Bluebrry Mini
Fitteds:
4 XS verybaby
1 NB Cuddlebuns
1 NB Mutt
1 NB WAHM fitted (similar to the verybaby).
Covers:
1 NB Bummis superbrite (going to buy a few more)
2 Bumkins Pull ons (NB)
1 Wool Longies

I'm planning on cutting up DHs too-small undershirts and stripping them down so that I can use them as liners for meconium staining, although stains honestly don't bug me if they're inside of the dipe

So what would you bring if this was your stash? I have heard conflicting things and have been told "No, do prefolds!" or "No! do fitteds!" So I'm not so sure

TIA!

I am a huge fan of prefolds for the newborn time. I just find that they are the most flexible in terms of getting them to fit a newborn. I had long, skinny preemies and only a prefold would work for them (and even them I became an origami master with all the folding). I just thing they give you the most options. Once a baby plumps up, then switch to the fitteds or whatever.

Just my $.02

Thanks mama

I should have mentioned that I began CDing DD around 15 months so I have no teeny experiences

I'm awesome at folding prefolds by the way If I went that route, are pins or snappis better for the first few days? We've got alot of snappis, but I'm afraid of pins, eep!

Def Prefolds w/snappis... all the way

With DS I started CDing at 4 months, but with DD i started at birth. Prefolds and covers are totally the way to go. You can easily fold down the dipe if you don't want it to touch the umbilical cord. Snappis are great, but I actually like pins, too, especially for the first couple of weeks. They seem to hold better when the babe is soooo little and there is a lot of extra fabric.

The fitteds may be too big. DD was 6# 1oz at birth so she was pretty tiny, but I found that I did not use the fitteds until she was about 10# (newborn size - don't know about preemie).

Congrats!

I had a few fitteds and other things in the nb size and I have really liked my pfs the best. Ds2 is 7 wks now and I've only had poo get on the cover maybe 3 or 4 times, never leaked out of the cover. Pf's have worked great for us, and if you're already an expert folder - i say go for it!

In terms of the snappi/pin question, I agree. I used pins the first couple of weeks. Both because they were a little easier to use with all the folding and fabric and also because both my MIL and Mother were bewildered by Snappis and I was too tired to coach them. Pins they knew.

Where are you delivering? I had my 3 guys at the Old Prentice. I was just months too early for the new one. It looked so beautiful and welcoming....

You might want to check with the hospital to see if they have cloth available. A lot of hospitals do, but don't volunteer the info.

I would take all 13 preemie pfs. You probably only need 1 cover, maybe2. The amount a NB poops and pees the first few days isn't much (each time), and it's unlikely the cover will get soiled in any way. Honestly, except for the car ride home (which I would probably do the longies), you probably won't even need a cover.

Thanks everyone

my3guys- I'm delivering at Swedish Covenant with the Midwives Too funny- my MIL loves snappis and like myself won't touch pins. She's a bit strange though.

I'm probably going to bring the preemie prefolds and the newborn sized prefolds, maybe my tinyest fitted for the ride home. I'm still searching for a longies going home outfit set

I had my prenatal care with them - awesome group of ladies! I planned a home birth from the beginning and was up front with them and they were fine with it. Linda is one of my favorite people ever! Happy birthing!
