Not $100/month, but maybe $100 every 3 months. About the only thing I'm seeing here that I spend any money on for myself is a professional haircut and foil, which is only $50, and I do that every 3 months. I don't buy clothes, or have nails done, etc. I have spent maybe $50 on clothes for myself this past year. Typical things I might buy for myself are candles, a book, good hair products. Once a month I'll go to lunch with a friend or some such ($10 - $15). I wear t-shirts and jeans every day. We live in one of the lowest COL areas of the country and are debt free, but we are savers, not spenders. Our single greatest monthly expense is dd's private school. We have other things that we will purchase "for me", but really they are for the whole family. We are saving for a new stove and new car for me right now. Those will be big-ticket items and I don't really count those for this poll (but they really *are* for me ). We also travel a lot. That's for the whole family, though, and it's usually to see family or friends OUS. I think you have to spend your money as is most comfortable for your family and what works best. In the end, as long as you are agreeing with your SO about money, not going into debt, and are saving for future goals, that's what really matters.

I voted zero and want to explain.

Out of our main wage income, the amount is zero. Several years ago, we both had $100/month of 'whatever' money. It was a really great thing because it kept it fair between the two of us, with no resentment on either side. I too found it hard to spend my money, but would usually make a larger purchase a few times a year.

DH stopped working and went to school FT and our budget changed. With DH working now, we never put that back in our budget. We still keep a pretty tight budget so we can meet certain savings goals. We're both pretty critical of whether a purchase is essential or not and in agreement when it comes up.

But, DH does have small income from a second job (somewhere around $1k/year) and our agreement was to split that and use that as our 'whatever' money. So it still averages to be in your lowest bracket, but we both can use it as we like over the time period we like.

Probably around $300-$500. Sometimes more, sometimes less. That includes hair, nails, and clothes. I didn't include our cleaning person, that's a household thing.
