Can't kick the Diet Coke habit...

When I was pregnant with my DS I didn't drink ANYTHING but water. For starters, it tasted super good...but I also didn't want the worries of caffeine. This time, I'm drinking about two cans a day. I wish I could stop, but it's really necessary to even function. I don't drink coffee, so this is my morning pick me up. I take B-6 for energy, but I feel I still need that extra caffeine kick!

Anyone else have this problem?

Yeah, but I've gotten it down to one cup of tea in the morning. Have you tried cutting back to 1 and 3/4 cans for a few days, then 1 1/2, 1 and 1/4, etc? It might work, but it might be hard to pour out most of a can of coke.

anyway, I feel you on the energy thing!

Yep. For me it's coffee. It still tastes really good and I'm so tired and have so much to do I can't quite do without it. I understand the risks and so I don't drink as much as I'd like, but I can't quit altogether, and frankly I have to wonder. If a cup of coffee or a glass of wine is so harmful, why isn't everyone in Europe retarded?

So true! Haha! Everything in moderation- right? Americans know nothing about moderation....everything's to the excess over here!

I am addicted to diet coke too. I've tried to quit a few times. I did pretty good when pregnant, but if I was pregnant again, I'm pretty sure I'd have a much harder time. You neeeed that caffeine to keep up! especially with no sleep and breast feeding and morning sickness and older sib to care for.

If you cut a little at a time- you can do it!

Good luck!

I'm still drinking coffee. Just a one tall latte everyday. I need it to get through the day with an active toddler. My doctor said that caffeine in moderation is just fine.

I'm trying to cut back some, but haven't had much luck yet.

cod liver oil gives me that kick of energy i need daily. works great on my dog, too.

Cutting back doesn't work. Seriously. You need to just stop, cold turkey. Yes, you'll feel like crap for a couple of days. Drink lots of water to flush out your system. Avoid sugars; they fatigue the body even more. After 3-4 days, you will not need that pick-me-up anymore.

If my OB says it's not a problem, then why should I go cold turkey?

I guess I should have quoted, but I was replying to the OP. A cup of coffee is far different than a Diet Coke. Coffee is a natural substance. Diet Coke is full of chemicals and aspartame, which isn't good for anyone.

Hey, OP, I was just wondering if you could switch to some nice green tea or something in the morning? I have 1 cup of yogi green tea/ day and it is super yum. Celestial Seasonings makes some great brews, like acai/ goji berry green tea and others that are sweet - you could even take them over ice if you like a cold drink......just a thought!

I havent had soda in years, really, I would try to cut that out if your diet if you can (no judgement here ) just cause it has some super nasty stuff in it.

good luck!

I am lurking because I just go a BFP tonight and am trying to wrap my brain around it. I had to respond because I just kicked the Diet Coke (I call it Monsanto juice now). What did it for me was switching to water kefir. It is super cheap to make and is full of probiotics. I make it with cranberry, apple, strawberry or grapefruit juices as flavorings. I find that the grapefruit and cranberry ones really give that slightly bitter taste that the caffeine in Diet Coke give -- and I like. It is so fizzy and yummy. I always have plenty of grains to share if anybody wants to give it a try.

crbyard, I love water kefir! Since I got pg, I've been making a ginger ale with it and it is fantastic for curbing nausea and m/s and way healthier than the bottled stuff from the store.

My husband is from India, and all the women there drink black tea throughout their pregnancy. I think my biggest concern would be with getting dehydrated, so just make sure you are drinking a lot of water or fluids.
