Help me solve this allergy mystery!

My 21mo DD has eczema from birth. We tried almost everything to treat it without success. The mystery part is that the eczema went away almost immediately when we traveled for 3 weeks to Israel a year ago. However, after coming back to CA, it took about 2 weeks for it to appear again. Why would that be?

Possible explanations that I could come up with:
- Different food while in Israel. Actually I was eating exactly the same stuff, not limiting my diet. Its true that the brands were different, but the type of food was the same.

- Different tap water. We traveled to WA a month ago and there the eczema didn't lessen at all. I assume that the water in WA is pretty different than the water in CA

- Air more humid. Again, it is pretty humid in WA, so...

- Different vegetation in Israel. I assume the vegetation in WA was pretty different too. Why didn't it go away then?

- Less stress while in Israel. Actually, I was pretty stressed with that vacation

- Supplements that I was not taking in the vacation. Nope, all the same

- Allergy to something in our house. Again, doesn't fit with the WA trip

What else could it be??????
I am breaking my head over this.
Cause all the reasons for her eczema we come up with, like food allergy, bad flora in the gut are not standing the test with why the eczema disappeared in Israel. I mean if it would be bad gut bacteria, those bacteria wouldn't just dissapear in Israel and then magically appear back again, right? It its food allergy, how come there was no allergy there?

Please give me ideas!

Same or different personal care products, soaps and detergents?

What about environmental allergies to pollens? That could definitely explain the difference between Isreal and home and even possibly WA depending on what the allergy is to.

Is there the same amount of corn in everything in foods in Israel? Corn is my son's huge eczema trigger. It's in a lot of things, including Febreze which people like to spray everywhere.

I go the same place every year on vacation & could never figure out why I got a horrible rash sometimes. At first I thought it was the (untreated) water, but eventually I made the connection between the rash & using Ivory soap. Now I just take my normal soap from home & I'm fine.

So maybe it's the reverse going on for your babe? Maybe a chemical reaction between the soap and the water?

I'm wishing you'd kept a food journal, because I'm curious what the ingredients were in the same "types" of foods. Do they really have all the same kind of junk in their foods that Americans do? Like soy in everything? And dairy in everything? I wouldn't think so. My BIL has horrible reflux and other symptoms in the US and whenever he travels to Germany on business, he feels fantastic, eating the restaurant food. There's got to be a difference in ingredients.

Another vote for ingredients here. There is corn and soy in everything here, not so much in other countries...

I don't know... It could be... We are very food conscious and I read ingredients labels on everything I buy, but its true that some crap for sure makes it to our table.
I have no idea how bad/good is the food in Israel.

That's an interesting idea. We barely wash her with soap at all thought, so I don't know. Could be, but...

Could be. But the vegetation in WA is so different than the one in CA.
