*October* Home Cooked Challenge!

Thread Starter
I was waiting around for someone to post a new thread for October and decided to do it myself. This thread is to keep us challenged to cook our meals at home! This can be all 3 meals a day, or just your dinner~ however you see it to work for you. Be sure to post each day what you had to eat. It keeps you accountable as well as gives others ideas for what we can make at home to save money!

***Thanks to beansmama for coming up with this idea!***

My goal for our family in October is to not eat out at all. I am to think about how much $ we spend a month on fast food/sit down restaraunts. I think this will be a BIG challenge for me but one I am willing to take on for 31 days!

I love this idea! We're good about not eating out, but I'm not so good about cooking "real" meals. I'm hoping this will motivate me to have more sit-down family dinners.

1. Leftovers and/or beans & cheese.

Thanks for posting this! I'm embarrassed to say that even though I came up with this challenge I ate out 3 times last month...on purpose...

But i'm down to try again! All in all, 3 times in one month is EXCELLENT for my family, this thread definitely keeps me motivated!

1) General Tao's tofu with broccoli and rice

Did you get the recipe from the eat air blog? Ahhh! These are SO yummy, aren't they? I made a batch two days in a row

I'm in, though I'm using some freezer-case items because dd is in labor.

01 - cheeseburgers, frozen mozarella sticks
02 - (planned and made ahead, my house smells yummy!) pot of beans with smoked pork, biscuits

I got lazy posting last month but we only ate out twice!! Thats great for us.

Oct 1- Ribs, mashed potatos and brocolli
Oct 2- Canadian bacon and pineapple French Bread Pizza
Oct 3-Hawaiian kielbasa and rice (DH has to work from 1730-1830 so I need something already waiting at home for us or it would be really tempting to eat out)
Oct 4- Left overs

Yay! I'm glad to see this again!! I didn't do so good last month- we still ate out a bunch (though a ton less than the month before, so at least we made an improvment!). I know we'll be going out a few times this month, we're doing a sunday brunch one week, and dinner out with family a couple times. My goal is to only go out for those planned family events, and make the rest of our meals at home!

1. Chicken Noodle Soup with yummy whole wheat french bread

Off to a good start, this was my first attempt at homemade chicken noodle soup, and it turned out fabulous, and with enough leftovers for another dinner plus a couple of lunches, too!

My meal plan for the next few days:

2. Chili Cheese macaroni
3. Chicken alfredo
4. BBQ something- either carne asada or burgers, depends on what dh feels like cooking- with potato salad
5. pizza

I'm definitely in! I'm Kerri, and I'm cooking for 7 - 3 adults and 4 children. We're eating at home all month, every meal. I've meal planned for the month and am doing the rest of the shopping tonight and tomorrow

I got the recipe from here...
http://planetgreen.discovery.com/foo...n-patties.html
but altered it quiet a bit, sadly I was worried that they wouldn't come out good, and I didn't have much ingredients so I made one batch, but I intend to make at least a triple batch next time, bake them, freeze them individually for quick meals

I'd love to join I spent the last week digging up old favorites and new meal ideas and planning how to fit them in our schedules

01 Oct 09 - Kids had hot dogs & chips at the Fire Dept's open house *FREE as Community outreach for the FD*, dh & I had leftovers

02 Oct 09 - Kids had pasta and veggies. Dh took me out to use up the last of our date night money/gift cards. Not a shining example of savings that. The ability to chat with my husband without every five second interruptions or having to edit our conversation for little ears was well worth it though.

03 Oct 09 - Mac & Cheese; Ribs and ice cream

04 Oct 09 - Eggs & toast, Casserole, home-made piza

05 Oct 09 - Leftovers, baked tilapia & peas

Sign me up I'm broke! (and have gained 6 pounds)!

Liz
1st - Baked ziti, and ratatouille
I would like to do this again . We rarely eat out, although I have one night budgeted fro next week (a $10 dinner is practically cheaper than making it yourself, plus leftovers ). Breakfast is random.

01: For lunch we had crockpot chicken quarters (I put them on foil balls so they don't get soggy), stuffing (kids shared a potato), broccoli and cheese. Supper was spagetti and meatballs for kids and I ate leftovers.
02: I'm making pizza for lunch. Supper will be yesterday's lunch leftovers made into a soup along with other leftover veggies, lol!

I printed off some blank meal planner sheets and I'm going to sit down later and start planning what we're eating for a while. My kids are very, very picky so sometimes I plan a few different things so we all have something we like.

Yay I'm so glad this is back, and I'm in again this month! I'm Kate, and I'm cooking for 3 1/2 (2 adults and 1.5 kids) It was nice to be accountable and helped me have a bit more willpower to say "no" to eating out when it was suggested and instead look at our monthly calendar ideas of meals. Because of that we ate out only 4 times (seriously its a miracle!!). Goal for this month - eating out 3 times only!

1 - Brinner for dinner!
2 - Papa Murphy's take n bake pizza & a salad
