*October* Home Cooked Challenge! - Page 3

So cool, I've never seen this thread before ! I'd like to give it a try ! I'm cooking for myself, DH, and two boys, ages 4 and 6, who are allergic to dairy and eggs. The food allergies limit our eating out anyway...but I go into crises when I have no idea what to make, so I'm hoping to maybe find some daily inspiration here !

01-breakfast pancakes, lunch sandwiches in the van on the way home from gymnastics, dinner homemade dirty rice
02-breakfast pancakes, lunch weekly Wendy's outing (a reward to 4 yo for participating in a class), and homemade beef stew for dinner.
03-breakfast pancakes, lunch DH homemade burritos made from leftovers (pulled pork, potatoes, beans, dirty rice) dinner TBA, probably natural hot dogs and broccoli for kids and beef stew for DH and I
04-breakfast pancakes, lunch boys had natural hot dogs and apples, I had a scrambled egg and ham burrito, DH had leftover stew. Dinner DH is making chili.
05-Breakfast pancakes, lunch sandwiches, dinner kids had Wendy's during hour long drive home from field trip, DH and I had chili.
06-Breakfast boys had pancakes, I had toast. Lunch boys had sandwiches, I had last of stew. Dinner boys had natural hot dogs and broccoli, DH and I had chili.
07-Breakfast boys had pancakes, I had bagel. Lunch we all had sandwiches. Dinner we all had chicken, carrots, potatoes, DH and I also had rice and homemade curry sauce.
08-Breakfast boys had pancakes, I had oatmeal. Lunch all 3 sandwiches. Dinner pasta and broccoli.
09-Breakfast boys had pancakes, I had cereal. Lunch boys had Wendy's on way home from 4 yo's class, I had leftovers. Dinner boys had natural hot dogs and broccoli, 4 adults (DH's parents visiting) had Olive Garden takeout.
10-Breakfast boys had pancakes, everyone else picked through the kitchen. Lunch boys had sandwiches, rest picked at leftovers. Dinner boys had leftover chicken/carrots/potatoes, 4 adults had Olive Garden leftovers combined with some new frozen ravioli and jarred sauce.
11-Breakfast most had pancakes. Lunch boys had sandwiches, rest picked at leftovers. Dinner made a new batch of beef stew and some homemade rolls.
12-Breakfast pancakes. Lunch sandwiches for boys, leftover ravioli for me. Dinner stew for everyone.
13-Breakfast pancakes for boys, eggs and a pancake for me. Sandwiches for lunch. Dinner salads for me and DH, DS1 had ham, rice and broccoli....then both boys got Wendy's as a motivation for DS2 to attend his swimming lesson and not scream and the teacher and basically get kicked out again. Well, it worked....
14-dinner dirty rice
15-dinner leftovers
16-dinner for boys, noodles, for DH and me, Chinese takeout and sushi, because both kids are mildly sick and I am also not feeling well
17-went on day trip to visit inlaws and had restaurant takeout
18-breakfast pancakes for boys, eggs for me, oatmeal for DH. Lunch sandwiches for boys, leftovers for me, not sure about DH. Dnner leftovers.
19-Breakfast pancakes, lunch sandwiches. Dinner - boys natural hot dogs and broccoli for me and DH, he made a great pasta dish.
20-Breakfast pancakes for boys, eggs and toast with soy yogurt for me. Lunch sandwiches for them, leftover soup for me. Boys had ham, pasta and broccoli for dinner. DH and I had leftovers with some new tortellini.
21-Rice, chicken, sweet potato fries, potstickers, broccoli.
22-Salmon, potatoes, leftover rice.
23-Leftover salmon, rice, potatoes, broccoli, for DH and I, leftover chicken, potatoes and broccoli for kids.
24-Black bean soup to use up celery, carrots and potatoes that were getting old.
25-Bean soup; kids had noodles with vegetables from the soup.
26-Chicken; french onion soup; rice; cranberry sauce; broccoli. At least that's the plan
27-I made gumbo from last night's chicken. Everyone had some.
28-Hot dogs for boys and leftover gumbo for me and DH.
29-Pasta.
30-Defrosted homemade beef stew.
31-Because we had grandparents in town to babysit, went out for dinner ! I had a reuben; DH had some fancy salad.

Thanks for posting this! I'm embarrassed to say that even though I came up with this challenge I ate out 3 times last month...on purpose...

But i'm down to try again! All in all, 3 times in one month is EXCELLENT for my family, this thread definitely keeps me motivated!

1) General Tao's tofu with broccoli and rice
2) I baked all day...so I pretty much just nibbled stuff non-stop. Dh had rice/lentils and salad.
3) White bean & leek casserole and salad
4) Indian chickpea stew over rice

I work 15 hrs./week, one is an evening, so I have one night that my mom and dd have to figure out dinner on their own. I'll put down my monthly meal plan and see how closely I stick to it. I have a very large pantry, so I already have everything for the next month and can shift things around if I need to. As long as we don't eat out as much.

1 - Chili and cornbread
2 - Papa Murphy's (50% off coupon; I work late)
3 - Grilled beef fillet with bernaise sauce, sweet peas, and homemade scratch rolls
4 - Dorowat (Ethiopian chicken and onion dish) over rice
5 - FFY (fend for yourself, I work late, dh works late)
6 - ham and beans with cornbread, tossed salad
7 - pasta shells with tomato sauce, tossed salad, homemade texas toast
8 - cottage pie (ground beef, shepherd's pie is made with lamb)
9 - grilled chicken, roasted asparagus, bean salad
10 - tas kebap (Turkish stew) over rice OR dinner with neighbors
11 - pea soup (some of this I will can), baked ham, roasted carrots
12 - FFY (fend for yourself)
13 - taco salad (rice, beans, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, homemade salsa, beef)
14 - leftovers
15 - cheese and onion enchiladas, beans, rice (b & r left over from taco salad)
16 - eat out
17 - pasta aglio e olio, salad, zucchini fritters
18 - tapas bar
19 - FFY
20 - leftovers or sammies (prepare for camping trip)
21 - camping
22 - camping
23 - camping
24 - camping
25 - camping (return home)
26 - sandwiches or leftovers
27 - breakfast for dinner
28 - FFY
29 - pea soup, roasted squash and salad with homemade croutons
30 - eat out or friends over
31 - candy

FFY = Fend for yourself, I don't cook that night as I'm not home
= met goal
= had to change meal plan (probably from laziness)
= ate out (probably from laziness)
Care to share your dorowat recipe? I love trying new ethnic foods...I'll just sub the chicken for tofu or tempeh

I'm in (sort of). I'm supposed to have a baby any day now, so cooking won't be at the top of my list. But I want to keep focused on using what we have, and going to the stockpile. I'll probably only list the days that I have something to do with the meal planning/prep.

3 - Leftovers!

I followed last months for yummy ideas, but didn't get in on the posting. This is getting into birthday season for our family as well as holiday season, and we really need to be eating at home. I also need to be packing DH's lunch for work. He eats it if I pack it, but if I don't he just gets something there. That really nickle and dimes us to death!

1. Beef Stew over noodles (double batched and froze for babymoon)
2. Italian Chicken and rice
3. Italian Chicken Sandwiches
4. Dinner out with Grandparents

1. Chicken Noodle Soup with yummy whole wheat french bread
2. Chili Cheese Macaroni
3. Take out- DH had to run an errand that took him out near one of our favorite places, it's a little far so we don't get to eat there often, so he picked up dinner on his way home.

I am working tonight and was gone with the kiddos at Sunday school all morning, so I threw chili fixins in the crock for the fam for dinner. That way dh won't order food. I packed some for my dinner at work too!

So far we have eaten 4/4 breakfasts & 4/4 lunches at home.

Dinners - not going as well...
1 - ate out w/dh (planned 1 of 2 monthly date nights)
2 - copped out and ordered pizza & salad
3 - crockpot BBQ shrimp - appetizer for dinner at neighbors house
4 - crockpot chili, pickled beets

Still doing well.

OCt 3 - cereal
homemade chicken tenders
pork loin in crockpot, risotto, asparagus

Oct 4 - banana bread
leftovers
eating at MIL's

It was nice waking up saturday and not feeling overwhelmed with what to cook. I had time to feed everyone breakfast, stick dinner in the crockpot, then make 4 loaves of banana bread.

I made cereal bars with cheerios and special K. I substituted soynut butter for peanut butter. They taste delicious. I pulled all the jumbo boxes of special K bars out of hte cabinet to return. I told my daughter if we ate these instead she could have the money for the playmobil toy she wants. (She's 4.) She's sold, and I think its a good way to teach her about value and making choices with your money.
