Room for one more? I'm a couch to 5K-er officially on week 2 (but it looks like I accidentally skipped the week 2 program and went on to week 3, so I'm just following it loosely), with the ultimate, long-way-off goal of running a marathon. I am not going to run an official race until late February (a half marathon....I hope.), but would love to join in on the thread during the training process.

Yes, by all means there is ALWAYS room for one more at the dingo cafe. Then again, I'm the kind of person who invited 16 people over for dinner when Erin was a baby and served it in the kitchen, living room and extra bedroom!

Starting the couch to 5k program on Tuesday!!!

welcome always and simplyrochelle!

hey, anyone ever deal with plantars warts? i am not sure if that's what this is, but i have one medium sized painful bump on the bottom of my foot and 2 other small, barely detectable ones on the bottom of my big toe

i looked it up online and it says that plantars warts will have 'fingerprint' type lines around them which these do not. they look like blisters but they are slightly more under the skin and not filled with fluid. they're kind of itchy too, but the painful kind of itchy.

was planning to run today. wondering if it's a reaction to my new orthotics?

bah. i'll run anyway.

So glad I ran when I did yesterday afternoon! An hour later my phone rang and I was off to my first birth at an apprentice (and, interestingly enough, my 101st birth to attend. How's that for good planning!) This first time mama pushed out her 10 lb baby, including a nuchal arm, with only a bit of a skid mark.

I woke up ready to stalk Bec....when does her race start?

Always

JayGee - Oh no! Poor little dinglet! Your dh gets for being night Daddy, I hope dd is better fast :

BEC!!!!!!! You're running a MARATHON!!!!!!! TODAY!!!! :

Nic and Gigi!! Y'all are probably done already! Can't wait for the race reports!

Poppy - Hmm, no experience but I've heard horror stories about plantar warts so I'd get them checked out if they don't go away pretty soon.

Gaye - Maybe you'll think of some clever warming up techniques

Teehee! I'm running a marathon on Sunday! Today, I'm having panic attacks and nervous breakdowns. My husband thinks I'm insane. He asked me what I was worried about, and I just couldn't tell him! I'm heading up to Milwaukee today, though, to go to the expo (with Sarah), meeting my family in the evening, and staying over so we can get a decent start tomorrow. Oh, and it starts at 8am! I've been doing some nice carb loading, too! Went out to Olive Garden last night, made pancakes this morning, and will do something noodle like for dinner!

Plantars warts. Katie had them a couple of years ago. We used wart remover (I don't remember the brand, but it was in a stick that looked like chapstick. Be careful not to mistake it for lip balm though!). Then, we covered it with duct tape (crazy, I know, but apparently, lack of oxygen helps kill the wart). Anyway, the next day, you take a file (like the kind for pedicures) and file down on the wart until it becomes sensitive (taking away the dead skin), wash well, wart stick, tape, etc. Do it daily. It took us about a month before we got to the root of the wart, but I understand it can take a little longer, too. It's a pain, and they are hard to get rid of! You have my sympathy!

Welcome to the new Dingos!

I guess that means that everyone running on Oct. 4 is actually running on Oct. 4 then? Oy. I was just staring at my calendar thinking blankly about menu planning too

More please.

Why does my grocery store not have canned pumpkin? Is there a shortage? They haven't had it up for months. The signs keep proclaiming soon, that it is seasonal and they are out? I want pumpkin soup, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin bread, pumpkin scones, pumpkin pound cake..... There is one can in my pantry but I am saving it for an emergency. I don't know what a pumpkin emergency is but I want to be prepared.

Ours sorts them differently in the fall. They take them off the shelves and put them in displays with sweetened condensed milk. Which means we can never find them.

I know TJs has them now. Do you one?

We made apple butter last night. I've never done that before. Dangerous stuff.

Hooray for races this weekend! It would be perfect weather to run around here--in the fifties and drizzly at the moment.

I waited tables last night, so my knee is worse again today. Grrrr. I'm desperate to get back on the roads again.

This morning my kids had soccer and were supposed to have their pictures taken--at the ridiculous hour of 8:00 in the morning. Eek. We were all grouchy getting up this morning and it was, as I said, a little chilly and drizzly. DH banked on there being no soccer; weather reports had high chances of rain all day. We got to the field a little early--nobody there. Has it been cancelled? Why didn't we get a phone call? We sugared ourselves into better spirits at Dunkin Donuts, then cruised back by the field, where we found that pictures were cancelled, but teams were still playing.

DD, who is five, was out there for half an hour or so while the rain started, then lessened, then poured down again. Coach seemed reluctant to just pull the trigger and cancel. Most other teams got the message that pictures were rescheduled, so we kept waiting for the team we were supposed to be playing to show. One member of that team arrived and it really started pouring. Everyone finally gave up.

Being out in the cold rain wears me out, so we're spending the rest of the day inside. Theoretically, I thought I'd do a whole bunch of cleaning and organizing, but DH is taking a nap in DS's bed and that irritates me and makes me less motivated. I did manage to get cinnamon bread makings into the breadmaker, though, so I can demand French toast for dinner tonight.

Okay, this is just blather to avoid the cleaning I said I'd do. Done now. Enjoy the running this weekend!

so, are all the racers going tomorrow? I'm confused and don't want to miss out on the cheering.

Poppy - i've had a plantars wart 2x. The first time i treated it with over the counter wart removal with no success and both times I ended up getting them froze off at the doctor's with liquid nitrogen. One was fairly big and the freezing hurt a lot, the second one was a lot easier and less painful.

Gray and ugly day here. We went to a bike demo this morning and I tested a new carbon, full-suspension bike that DH wants me to get. It was fun but i don't know that i'm ready to move beyond a singlespeed hardtail.

Now i'm off to walk the dog and the kid in the woods.

Well to be fair now that I am back at work I rarely get on the computer at home (except for right now of course) so it doesn't impact my children.

Does it have a little black dot in the middle? dd1 just had one a month or so ago and I was going to go the store and get the over the counter stuff and then it just fell off by itself. I have had them before and that has never happened to me...oh well it saved me about $30.

No run today. We went to our first day of swimming lessons this morning and they were in the water for about 10 minutes when they had to clear the pool because of a "fouling". I guess these things happen with a pool full of little ones. Anyway they are giving us a credit toward the next session since there is no room in the schedule for a make up class.

Okay, I am getting off the computer now....

Not racing tomorrow, after all. I didn't realize it's over 70 miles away and it's just too far to go to get there for registration at 6 a.m. Whoops!

Going for 8 or 9 tomorrow, depending on weather.

GOOD LUCK RACERS!!!

GOOD LUCK BEC AND MOMMABELLE!!!!

and welcome, always and simplyrochelle!

poppy~I had plantars warts several years ago. I had had them for a loooong time, but they were starting to get painful. I tried everything possible OTC and nothing worked, so I ended up at the dermatologist for the liquid nitrogen freeze.

mommajb~I had the SAME problem a few weeks ago! Not a single can on the shelf, of any brand. I was way confused since it's not really pumpkin pie season yet!

Well, at least I'm not the only one who thought today was race day. I'll be ready to for bec again tomorrow!

I am so tired. And have much, much labwork to do tonight. It's gotta get done, no choice. Yuck.

The bike ride was very nice, again. I just can't get a good read on the boy, though. I *think* he's interested, but nothing really obvious has been said to indicate that. And, of course, I had to rush off again b/c I had a birthday party to get to. He's out of town for work this week but asked if I had anything going on next weekend. It would be nice to do something that doesn't involve tech gear.

Tomorrow is the Race for the Cure, but DS is running a slight fever. Amy's in her most immunocompromised period from chemo, so I'm not sure I'll be able to take him if he still has the fever. X said he could take him so I can still go, but I feel bad...DS is so excited for the race and to wear his t-shirt.

I'm guessing that I'm not going to get my 12 in tomorrow. My legs are shot, and after the race (even though it's really only a walk), it's just not gonna happen. Guess it'll be 12 with the stroller on Monday.

bec - Go, mama, go!!! (that's you warming up, then everyone else trying to catch you! )

tjsmama - well, I'm glad you had a good time. I guess worse case scenario you gain another athletic friend? Ugh, for poor ds. I hope he wakes up cured of a mild 24 hour bug.

JayGee - Your poor dd!! That is terrible. H1N1 hasn't really hit here yet, but we are all dreading it. And a big for dh sitting up with dd.

to AlwaysByMySide and SimplyRochelle - Jump right it!

On plantar warts - I've had a couple (and of course treated many, many more!) and haven't had great luck with OTC stuff. Even freezing with liquid nitrogen often requires more than one treatment, but often after one treatment they are smaller enough that you can fiddle with them at home.

We sent dd off to homecoming tonight. Her pics are up on facebook, if anyone's interested (pm me if you don't know my whole name to find me.) She looked marvelous. She's going with a friend, and I had to give him a hard time when he showed up to pick her up. He's in dd's church youth group, and we were hosting a big garage sale for the youth group at our house today and our youth pastor was at our house when he arrived to pick up dd. So, he gets out of the car, and heads straight for the youth pastor and says "You must think it's strange that every time I see you I'm with a different girl!" And I'm like "Dude, that is not what your date's mom wants to hear!" I told him he looked great, but he should work on his entrances (he's big in both school theater and community theater.) Anyway, I think dd was looking forward to going and enjoying the lack of pressure from it not really being a dating situation.

The youth group made a little over $400 at our sale today! We'll do a few more hours tomorrow. It was only a high of 50ish today and drizzled off and on most of the day, so it was great we still had so many shoppers, but it took me like 4 hours to finally get warm after.

RR - I ran an easy 4 on the treadmill tonight. I was really not feeling it, but I am trying hard to run when I can. I miss too many runs for work or family reasons, so I'm trying not to miss any cause I just don't wanna!

Gaye - that really stinks that you might not get to go tomorrow.

Oh man, I just realized I'm not going to be home tomorrow a.m. to stalk Bec. There's nothing like a good stalk.

You might remember me whining awhile back about wedding attire. Well, I got almost this exact dress today (the pattern is slightly different). No boobs required! Do you think it's wedding appropriate, though? It's been so long since I've been to one I can't even remember what people wear.

rr: 10.25 miles. And I, um, got to run with a lizard on my shoulder. The &^%%$% thing fell out of a tree and landed on me! It took a major chicken dance to get if off. Thank goodness it was more on my back so I didn't know it was a lizard until I saw it hit the ground, or else I'm sure ya'll would have been able to hear my screams. Needless to say, it was by far my fastest 10+ miler ever.

It's 7:50 am, and I'm thinking of you Bec!! How exciting!

Me, I'm hopelessly behind here in dingo-land. I had to skim, like, 5 pages of posts

CFG, the dress with the bell-sleeves? It is gorgeous! I love it - so elegant.

Gaye, cool that you met up with the boy again! My gut (and many, many years of dating) tells me that he is interested. Because these days of not contacting you seem so... premeditated somehow. I think he's just trying to keep his cool and not seem overly interested. Enjoy it! It's better than someone who tries to rush into a relationship.

Always & Rochelle!

I was wondering how JenLove was doing. I hadn't seen any posts for a while, or did I miss something?

Oh, congratulations Memiles!

Geo, apple-butter??? Why didn't I ever think of that? It sounds heavenly. Would tart apples work better?

Nick, bummer on skipping the race, but that is totally understandable. Sounds way too inconvenient. Will you do your 8/9 with your RP?

Speaking of RPs, I am kinda thinking of calling a running group that I have seen around town. Just to have a group of people to run with. But I'm also a little bit hesitant, seeing as how people tend to be slower to accept new or temporary people... but maybe I'm just being a little bit chicken. I know they have a mix of fast and slow people, and I thought it would be nice to have a group to get me out especially during the wintertime when it gets dark so early. I just don't want to run alone after dark.

I have been slacking off on running, mostly because of the kids/solo parenting thing. But I did run 5 yesterday and it was heavenly.

Go, Bec, Go!!!!

DS's fever is actually worse, so I guess it's off to Daddy's house with him. Poor guy.

I got 2 1/2 hours of sleep and feel like a zombie, but oh well. What are you gonna do? Must. Walk. to. Fight. Breast. Cancer!
