should I buy a fetoscope?

They all seem to be about $20. Can I hear the heartbeat/find the placenta myself with it? Is it worth getting? This may be my last baby, at least for a few years. I don't have to hear the heartbeat, I'd like to know where my placenta is but it's not necessary (I've had no bleeding whatsoever so no worries about location). I think I'm already talking myself out of spending the money!!! I can find so many other uses for $20...

Opinions?

We bought one for our first UC, and I couldn't get the darned thing to EVER work. I could never find the baby. Sometimes a stethoscope works later as you are near term, but I am not sure about that. You can get a $10 BP and stethoscope kit from WM, I think. But, again, I am not sure. I know that I just didn't get my fetoscope to ever work. Kymberli

We bought a stethoscope when I was pregnant with my first. I could start catching a heartbeat with it around 18 weeks.

I can't find my LO's HB with one either, but I'm heavy and have an anterior placenta. I end up using the doppler. I wish I hadn't wasted the money on the fetoscope.

My dd was born at home in the water five months ago with just her mama, papa, and big brother in attendance. I bought a fetoscope and am so glad I did (inhishands.com I think is where I bought it). We listened to the baby's heartbeat for the first time on Christmas Day-so special, just our family listening to our baby's heartbeat for the first time. I was about 22 weeks along. I would lay down at night and find the heartbeat-I could just fall asleep to that sweet, sweet sound. ) It worked great for us. My 4 year old son really enjoyed playing midwife and timing the heartbeat-too cute! We didn't want to use a doppler or have any ultrasounds, so it was nice for us to monitor the baby this way.

I heard dd#2's HB from about 18wks onwards...I didnt use it in labour, though i could have if I wanted to Imsure. I also found my placenta with it.

I wouldnt necessarily get it for medical reasons alone, unless I felt I needed to - but I loved it. I loved listening to her heartbeat anytime I wanted. It was really soothing, and because it sounds more like a HB than a doppler..its..real..as weird as that seems. My fetoscope was the best purchase I made for my UC. It was truly wodnerful
