Need help (and some encouragement- venting)

I'm so frustrated with cloth diapering today. DS has had a bad rash for the past few days and today the sitter used non-CD friendly (Penaten) diaper cream with a BG dipe WITHOUT the disposible liners I also provided.

I could've cried when I discovered that two of my month-old $25 diapers may be ruined... How do I get the cream off my diapers without going at it with Dawn and a toothbrush?? (Wouldn't you know it these particular two diapers are also ones he pooped in - and he only poops a couple times a day.)

Besides the obvious issue with that, I'm also just generally frustated with how little those around me (particularly the sitter) are resistant to cloth. To me, you need to be a little bit more on the ball with changes, but it's really not that difficult. I've tried to be fairly flexible about disposibles vs. cloth but disposibles just seem to be winning every time I turn around... Behind on laundry? Grab a 'sposie. Sitter going out and about? Grab a sposie. Outfit almost outgrown? Use a 'sposie so it fits. DH simply feeling lazy? Grab a sposie (even though there's a pile of prefolds sitting right there!)

ARGH! I swear, once this pack of disposibles are done I will absolutely refuse to buy any more. I hate what's in them, I hate throwing them out, I hate how they don't breathe, I hate how they feel, I hate paying for them. Why do I even have them??! Oh yeah, they're convenient and other people like them.

Yeah, don't buy any more sposies if you hate them that much. You're the mom, you should call the shots! But, man, I'm REALLY sorry about the rash cream incident. A sitter ruined a KND for me with Desitin one time and I didn't hold it against her because she really didn't know any better, but OMG. Maybe throw out the non-CD-friendly rash creams and buy some diapers with cotton inners? And, frankly, folks should be staying on top of changes even if the kid is wearing a disposable. Cloth or disposable, it's not healthy to be sitting in pee bacteria. I'd be pretty upset if I knew my baby's caretaker wasn't bothering to change diapers. That's a pretty basic caregiving fact.

I would get rid of the non-CD friendly diaper cream, and keep something CD friendly on hand. I used to use the medicated baby powder on DS, instead of a cream.

I'd also suggest keeping the disposables someplace inconvenient, so if DH is being lazy, it's easier to grab a prefold than a sposie.

Is the sitter in your home or do you take him to the sitter? If you take him there, and she's got her own diaper cream that she uses for all babies, it might pay to use sposies when you bring him there and cloth when he's at home. If the sitter comes to your home, then there's no reason for her NOT to use the same diapers (and creams/powders) you use the rest of the time. Set things up so it's convenient to use the cloth and expect her to use it.
