any carriers OK for a pregnant mama?

My dd is a chunky 9 months old and I just found out I'm a little bit pregnant. Assuming it's a sticky baby, are there any carriers you can use in a back carry that are safe & comfy when pregnant, at least through the first 2 trimesters? We live on a farm and I have animal care jobs every morning and evening, so I've been using an Ergo for a few months. But I know that the waist strap wouldn't be comfy or possibly safe on a larger belly.

Though I prefer a back carry, a hip carry could be OK too, but I can't do a one-shoulder carrier like a sling at her age & weight -- I have to have the weight distributed to both shoulders for my own comfort.

I don't have much experience with stretchy carriers, but I'm thinking maybe one of those might be a good choice. Any recommendations?

A mei tai or a woven wrap both work great for pregnant back carries. You can tie them tibetan stytle (which ties above your breasts--no waist tie) or you can tie them below or above your bump, whichever is comfy for you.

My favorite is the woven wrap. It gives so much support and as you get further along, you will really appreciate that!

Also, there is more versatility for getting comfy--you can spread the wrap over your breasts, do rucksack straps, tibetan tie, etc, until you are comfortable.

Congratulations!

I've been using my ergo : I just put the waist strap way down on my hips, below my belly.

Here's my friend Rachel when she was pregnant. She's wearing her daughter in a Back Wrap Cross Carry, she's spread the crosses over her breasts, and tied under the bump:

Isn't she beautiful?

Yes! So much so that it made my eyes tear up. So if I were to shop for one of those, what would I look for? Just a "woven wrap?"

P.S. I don't necessarily think the Ergo is unsafe while pregnant, but I've had several early m/c & I know it will make me nervous for probably no good reason.

Some of the popular brands of woven wrap are Didymos, Storchenwiege, Neobulle, Girasol, Hoppediz . . . oh there's lots more. And the one in the picture is an EllaRoo.

They're all very good. You might find a used one for sale on the for sale or trade forum here. Or introduce yourself to www.thebabywearer.com for all the baby carrier info you could want, including reviews

I've used mei tais and SSCs like the Ergo throughout pregnancy without a problem. The Ergo isn't going to be unsafe if you push the hip belt under your developing bump.

And I will keep all my fingers and toes crossed for you that you have a sticky baby! (But babywearing isn't going to harm a developing peanut, so please don't worry too much on that front.)

Congratulations!!! Sending sticky baby vibes your way!!

I found out I was pg with DD when DS had just turned 1. I wore him all through my pregnancy. I used my Ergo for the first 2 trimesters to do all my barn chores. I could easily clean 12 stalls and put the horses in/out with him in the Ergo. I also bough a woven wrap (a Storch) when he was about 18 months and used that all the way through my 2nd and 3rd trimester. I was cleaning stalls on my due still wearing him. LOL!

I just stopped if I got really tired or uncomfortable but I always felt safe!
