Book recommendations...?

Strange, but, since it's been 18 years between pregnancies I'm in need of a good pg book. Any recs, and especially for my DH, as this is his first? He's going to want everything he can get his hands on.

I'm really liking. "The Complete Organic Pregnancy" by Deirdre Dolan and Alexandra Zizzsu:

I was about to ask this from you more experienced mamas here. I've been on the lookout for a good pregnancy book that isn't going to scare me (What to Expect...I'm looking at you...) and will give me loads of good information about development.

I like 'Your Pregnancy Week by Week'. I like it better than What to Expect because I like seeing every week vs every month.

I also loved The Complete Organic Pregnancy. It's mostly about keeping a healthy environment and diet, and making non-toxic choices for clothing, toys, bedding, and such. It's presented in a very warm, straightforward way. For more on the nuts and bolts of pregnancy/birth look at Dr. Sears' The Pregnancy Book and The Birth Book. Dr Sears is alway low on scare and high on comfort.

I love Aviva Romm's The Natural Pregnancy Book. Also Mothering's Having a Baby Naturally, the Complete Guide to Pregnancy and Childbirth

Dr. Sears' The Pregnancy Book was my bible with pregnancy #1. I think I glanced at it a bit during pregnancy #2 too. I imagine it will continue to collect dust on my bookshelf during this entire third pregnancy, LOL. Not sure if there are newer good ones now, as I bought that book six years ago now, and some things have probably changed (prenatal testing, some advice, etc. - obviously not the nuts and bolts of pregnancy!)

What to expect is terrible! Just freaked me out.

Books I like are:

Mayo Clinic Guide to pregnancy
Ina May's Guide to Childbirth
The Pregnancy Book (Sears)
The Thinking Woman's Guide to Birth (Goer)
I forget the titles, but Sheila Kitzenger is a great author too

I agree with the books recommended. I just bought The Complete Organic Pregnancy, as this is my first crunchy pregnancy and I love it. For dh, check out The Expectant Father and Be Prepared: A Practical Handbook for New Dads (which is really funny in parts, too). My dh loved both of them as our youngest was his first.

When I was pregnant with DD and the midwife asked what books I was reading, I told her that I read WTEWYE all the time. I forgot to mention that I looked at it only for the "what's happening this month" section. I loved seeing how my baby was growing. She told me to throw it away. Immediately.

It's not a pregnancy book exactly, but it has tons of good information in it, and is hugely entertaining to read: Baby Catcher by Peggy Vincent. She was a homebirth midwife in California, the book tells the birth stories of her clients (as well as her own). I found this book before I was pregnant with my first, but I still find myself going back to it.

YES YES YES to Baby Catcher by Peggy Vincent - such a great book!
