If I keep waiting, which vax do we really need?

DS is 3.5 months old. Still not vaccinated... If we keep waiting (at least until 6 months), which vax will he either need less doses of or none at all as he gets older? Or where can I find this information?

TIA

They'll tell you to start from the beginning and get him "up to date."

I told my doc we were waiting until DD was 2yo. At her 2y appt. I told him we wouldn't be vaxing at all and asked if he had a problem with that (I never want my decision to make a doc uncomfortable. I knew I had other options). He said it was not an issue at all and both kids are vax free.

Depends on what you mean by "really need"

My kids are unvaxed. They don't "need" anything

It depends what age you're thinking of delaying to.

If you want the "official" list, the AAP has a catch up schedule. http://www.cispimmunize.org/IZSchedule_Catchup.pdf

I am posting this not as an endorsement but merely to tell you what the "official" recommendations are.

Hib and Prevnar are primarily for under-2s. Officially, you're supposed to get it at reduced doses until age 5, but it isn't required for school and the risks of Hib or pneumoccocal disease go down with age. Rota cannot be given from 15 weeks on, so you're automatically excluded from that.

ETA: I would also check your state's legal requirements for school. That's not a medical recommendation but it will give you a feeling for what's considered standard for older children.

We vaccinate on a case by case basis depending on the kid and what is going on in the area where we live (whooping cough outbreak, etc.).. . I just took my 2.5 year-old in or her 2 year-old check up, and they crossed a whole bunch of stuff off because she is over 2.

I think the best course is to ask your pediatrician what they would do if you started vaccinating at a certain age--whatever you are comfortable with-- and see what schedule they will recommend. If they do the "catch up" thing then seriously delay or find another doctor (if you can).

According to these doctors...the answer would be none.
