preservative that has never proven to harm anyone in any long term, peer reviewed, validated study

Someone just told me this... as pertaining to thermisol (sp?) when I was defending a mother upset about not being able to find the preservative free flu shot. Others are just telling her to go get the normal one and it will be just fine.

How to even respond...

"Could you please provide me with a copy to this study or a link to the website where I can read through it? Thanks!"

That's pretty much my standard response when I feel someone is blowing smoke out their rears. I've only had to use it once IRL but it's served me well on debate boards. And the one time that I did request the info the person I asked provided it to me and it was not anything remotely close to the point she was trying to make.

This debate does not really work that way though... she is saying no peer reviewed study has ever shown mercury in vaccines cause damage. So the burden of proof can not be on her as it would require her to post ever study done ever on the subject. See?

I would point out that there are plenty of scientific studies in peer reviewed journals (not epidemiological studies) that have shown thimerosol to do great harn in a variety of ways. David Kirby has over 200 studies sited in his book "Evidence of Harm"

As for no study being done that proves it is harmful in vaccines I would point out the studies that supposedly exonerate mercury in vaccines as causing harm are severely flawed and mention that there are no studies done that prove thimerosol is NOT harmful.
