confused. does soybean oil = soy?

I'm trying to eliminate soy, among other things, from my diet while BF dd (12 weeks old). I thought I would not be able to eat soybean oil, which is in a lot of things (including the one seemingly dairy-free "butter-like" substance I found, Benocal. And even in crackers.). Then I happened to be looking at the FAAN website, and they say that most people allergic to soy can eat soybean oil. Any opinions or comments on that? If it were true that a person allergic to soy can eat soybean oil, then surely a person BF a baby allergic to soy could also eat soybean oil? yes/no/maybe?

I'm only a week or so into this elimination thing with dairy and soy, and have seen no improvement whatsoever (in fact, the mucus in her stool seems to have increased, so much so that I called the ped's office to ask whether starting zantac may have caused that - it's really helping the screaming-during-eating - so I don't want to stop it). She's got pretty sensitive skin and possibly a little eczema already, and a sibling with food allergies/asthma, etc. and I'm quite afraid she's not going to outgrow these issues. I'm already frustrated with the whole thing and am quite tempted to stop BF altogether (I've always hated it) but so far she's gaining weight, almost too much (she was at the 75th percentile at 2 months, and we're not big people - her next oldest sibling is about to fall off the bottom of the chart at the 3rd percentile). I'm never going to figure out which allergens are causing this, am I? (Yes, I'm projecting into the future a bit prematurely.) In the past week, the amount of mucus seems fairly consistent no matter what I'm eating.

If you're ALLERGIC (IgE) to soy, then usually you can tolerate soy lecithin ad soybean oil, because the protein isn't in there. If you are INTOLERANT (IgG) usually you CANNOT tolerate soy lecithin and soybean oil. Yes, it's in everything.

Are you keeping a food journal?
Have you looked at all your supplements/meds?

Top 4: dairy, gluten, soy, corn (eczema big ones are dairy, corn, and eggs)

But ANY food can cause ANY symptom. That's why food journals are so important. You'll be able to figure out. It does take patience and fortitude though!
