So I was reporting a story about a new hospital opening. They've had three births in two days, one of which was a C-section. The OB I was interviewing told me that. And I swear, the words just kind of flew right out of my mouth -- I said, "Hey, one out of three C-section rate. You're right in line with the national average."
He very quickly said, "We'll be much lower than that" and proceeded to tell me some good birthing policies they had (encouraging doulas, working with births plans, keeping mother with baby, thinking about bringing in birth pools, etc.)
It was actually the first time I had ever been in a maternity ward. It was pretty nice looking -- dim lights, wood paneling. But at the end of the day, it made me so grateful for my homebirth. Hospital birthing (barring a medical emergency) is such an alien concept to me now.

But not the least bit out of line! Good for you. More of us need to be challenging OBs about their birth habits and stats.
