non-christian religiously oriented books for preschoolers?

DH dug out his old illustrated bible for DD, and I'd like to give her a broader, more balanced view of religion than just that - does anyone have any suggestions for similar books from other faiths? I'm sort of pagan but very vaguely, so pagan-leaning books would be great but I'd also like ideas for Hindu, Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist etc. kids books.

there is a very nice preschoolers selection here at an online Quaker bookstore.
some are from the judeo-christian tradition, others are quite universalist in scope.

most of the books that immediately come to mind are for slightly older children, school age--for example, all of Jon Muth's books, especially Stone Soup. i really like the collection of stories Muslim Child by Rukhsana Khan.

you might browse Skylight Paths press. there are lots of great choices there for children. (though many of the choices are at the bookstore link i posted above.)

i will post again when i think of other specifics.

we LOVE the Mouse and the Buddha. Our library had it, but we took it out so ofter that we bought it. I also like the Zen Shorts books.

I really liked "What is God" by Etan Botitzer and DD did, too. It discusses many different religions and perceptions of what God could be from different perspectives but was a very easy read.

They have a good selection of Buddhist stories for children. The artwork is gorgeous and the books are written in a way to appeal to children.

Thanks for the suggestions, and keep 'em coming! I just got "The Story of Religion" and "What is God" out of the library, we'll see how those go over.

So, DD really liked the "What is God?" book and it helped us (me) have a good discussion about what I believe and why. "The Story of Religion" was a bit too wordy and geared towards older kids for her.

I'd really love some suggestions for nice kids' pagan stories. Norse, Celtic, Greek, Roman - whatever. First Nations would be good too. Our library seems a little deficient in those.
