ds is 9 months. have a kozy. front carry, he reeeeaaccchhheesss out to grab everything i am handling! i sometimes try back carry because of this but don't care too much for that since my shoulders/back get sore fairly quickly. i try giving him a toy but he is at a stage where he likes to drop things and besides i think he gets bored with the toy after a few moments and wants to be in on whatever action i am doing.

plus he will bend waaaaayyyyyy over, like falling out of the kozy kind of gymnastic, even if i tie it tight and snug, he just bends over and pushes his way out. what to do? anyone else have trouble with this?

How high does the carrier come on his back? Do you think a carrier with a higher back would help? One that keeps his arms in more?

What makes wearing him on your back hurt? Is it the straps? Just curious. A lot of people find it more comfortable to carry their baby on their back.

Yes. It shouldn't be *less* comfortable than front carry. I wonder if maybe you're not tightening it enough when he's on your back? I find if he has room to lean around on my back it hurts more. When I have him tight up against me it's far more comfortable.

I can adjust the back to be low or high, but if I put it high and DS decides he doesn't like that, he just reaches up his arm and manages to "get himself out" that way.

I am pretty sure it's the straps that are pulling at me, so it makes my shoulders hurt. I follow the method shown on the Kozy video website.

Okay, I'll have to try that and see. Thanks!

I particular like the Kozy because it has a big body. I think like PP said that wearing it tighter on you, so your little one is pressed on you will help with him not being able to lean back and also will carry the weight better on you.

Okay, I am trying it right now. His head is flopping way over because he is sleeping. That always seems to happen when he is sleeping. I have the Kozy at its highest height, and I made it really snug, -- for the first time, I had extra slack in the ties, I was so surprised since I always thought I had tied it tight to the max -- but I don't know what to do about his head flopping since obviously I can't reach back there. What do you all do about that? Especially when no one is around now to help prop it up.

When I had baby head flop in a Mei Tai back carry, I would untie the shoulder straps and pull them straight up over my shoulders and bounce so my dd would sink lower into the carrier and the back of the carrier would cover just the back of her head to support it.

Then retie. Since she was asleep, there was no arguing, or trying to get arms and shoulders out, etc. This process barely jostled her, just let her sink down.

I could do this in 30 seconds in public, no problem. HTH!

Thanks for the suggestion. It seems though that DS's torso is on the long side maybe because his head always seems not to be able to be supported by the head part of the carrier. Or am I not properly using the carrier? It's been like this for the longest time. DS is 10 months. Last time maybe a month ago he was about 32 inches long/tall. Am I doing something wrong?

Okay, I tried tightening it and I last about one hour before my shoulders start to hurt. How long can all of you last before you start to get sore?

I think the amount of time it takes before you're uncomfortable depends on the wearer, how much you've worn the baby since birth, weight of the baby... But if it's only your shoulders that are sore at this point, maybe you'd do well finishing tying the straps Tibetan. Instead of finishing by tying the shoulder straps around your waist you would bring them through the opposite strap going under your shoulder, and tie them in front. So the strap that comes from underneath your baby's left left would fit into the strap going under your right arm, pull it through so that if dangled it goes down your front. Then the strap under your babe's right leg would pass through the strap going under your left arm, and you would tie the knot at your chest between the two shoulder straps. I'll try to find a picture (or perhaps someone else has one) if that isn't very clear.

If I understand your desciption of tying it, I think that is currently how I do it. I first tried the waist tie, but the shoulder straps kept falling off, so I had to tie it up high through the shoulder straps. I pulled tighter this time around so that I had extra slack, but it still didn't seem to make a difference in how soon I got sore. How many methods of back wearing ties can be done using a mei tai?
