New to metformin, Frustrating cycle, not diagnosed PCOS fully

I am on my 2nd cycle of clomid and after the first one failed and I had a cyst, this cycle I had to go to the RE for monitoring 3 days this week to see how it ewas working this time. FRUSTRATED because my follicles grew from Mon. to wed. but Fri. stayed the same, they are not growing!. So, I have to take another 5 days of 100mg of clomid and they re putting me on metformin too. What is it really, what does it do, how will it help?

Can anyone tell me side effects or your experiences with it?

hi nyteacher.

it sounds like a really frustrating cycle.

i've been on met on and off for a while. i took it from dec 2007 until the end of my first trimester (i finally got and stayed pregnant in july 07). i'm now taking it again and have been for three months. i was never "officially" diagnosed with PCOS either.

metformin is a diabetes medication that has an off-label fertility uses. i think it really helps to regulate my cycles.

i never had a lot of side-effects. if i eat something really greasy/junky i will definitley have a bit of GI distress, but otherwise i've been side-effect free. i know this is not the case for everyone.

as soon as my cycles returned after the birth of my son i wanted to get back on the met as i really think it helped us.

good luck!
