need hard evidence to prove my reasons vs flu shot & h1n1

so dh is convinced i should get the flu shot and h1n1 shot. under NO CIRCUMSTANCES am I getting the h1n1 shot. but am open to the flu shot. I need some hard evidence to convince myself and dh which way to go.

We went to doc yesterday and they worked us over pretty good - preg women are hit hard by swine flu.. causing death... newborn will be at risk if we get swine flu.. bla bla bla.

Anyone can point to articles, hard evidence (percentages etc) that show

-that the regular flu vax is not effective or harmful or has bad side effects/adverse events to preggos/fetus/newborn?

and/or

- the same with swine flu. (altho I'm not holding my breath on this one) How could they know ANYTHING about something they just piled together last yr?

thanks.

Find the insert and read the ingredients. Then point out all the things you're supposed to avoid while pregnant- alcohol, lunchmeat, soft cheese, OTC meds, etc etc etc and ask why these ingredients INJECTED are safe.

Also ask for long term studies comparing babies whose moms were vaxed vs those not. How does it impact them as children? Adults?

Canada has release articles in the press that the regular flu vax actually increases the risk of getting swine flu. They don't know why.

Swine flu has been rushed though and the safety tests are not going to be completed/availbale till next year. Thimersol has been added back into the vax because it is the only way to make it fast enough

We were going to need 3 shots (plus the seasonal flu), now we think it will be 2 (plus the seasonal flu), except in Canada where most provinces are holding off on the seasonal flu till they figure out why they are seeing that trend. In anycase, the release of the swine flu vax is delayed now, again, till November... ideally it would be given in September or October.

There's just so many reasons to be cautious about this... which reasons are going to be compelling to you dh-- maybe just that it doesn't reallly seem like anyone knows what's going to happen and already unexpected results seem to be occuring.

Media, along with all the hysteria, continues to report that the H1N1 is typically milder than the 'normal' flu

Oh, adding, I also saw posted (in the late September or October thread) the study that showed that many who were sickened and hospitalized (or died) also had a Vit D deficiency.....

Good luck,

Jessica

There is thermisol free h1n1 vaccine in the US (or there will be... mid-October I guess they're saying). I don't think that there will be thermisol free vaccine in Canada.

Honestly, if you are comfortable with the seasonal flu vaccine, I would second what alegna suggests--look at the ingredients for both.

The only major difference between the h1n1 vaccine and the seasonal flu vaccine is the antigen-- there are 3 other 'type A influenzas' in the seasonal flu shot, and there is the h1n1 antigen in the h1n1 vaccine.

I guess you could say that every year the seasonal flu shot is just thrown together and untested. There has been a lot more caution and testing of the h1n1 vaccine then there typically is for the season flu shot, if you consider it that way.

Another thing to consider if that the h1n1 vaccine seems to be the strongest, dominant flu. So the seasonal flu shot might not be necessary at all.

But lastly, I don't know if you can gently thank DH for his concern, but ultimately you have to be comfortable with this and make the choice. If you aren't comfortable with it, don't do.
