LTK Earwarmer cap top down?

I want to try this top down. Am I right in thinking I just reverse the ear shaping? Instead of working up to my final stitch count (say 57 stitches) I work down from 57? Please tell me this will work because I already started.

well of course it will work , it will always work , just remember we can always stitich a border to tighten or loosen something as long as our basic form is good ... i remember a beanie that ended up a beret with ear flaps i made the first year i knitted for others ...
but my brother liked it , so thats all that matters, i even saw him wear it a couple times when he wasnt expecting to run into me , so i know he did really like it
