Crafty mamas---refashioning baby clothes to make them ec friendly

This baby is totally outfitted for the 1st 3 months of his life---too bad nearly everything we have is not ec friendly. I can't afford to go out and buy a bunch of new stuff, and I love refashioning, so I was thinking about converting his wordrobe. The onesies are easy, but what about blanket sleepers? He's due around the new year, and we have a drafty house, so I like the warmth of blanket sleeper, but how can I make them easy-access?

Is there a way to have blanket sleepers zip from the top to the bottom, so you just have to unzip the bottom to offer the potty? I didn't use them (and I would have loved to!) because I didn't want to unzip all the way for the potty!

We don't have blanket sleepers here but google is a wonderful tool!

Could you make a horizontal cut in the back of the sleeper at waist-ish level and then add snaps or velcro on it to close it? To potty at night you would probably be able to just undo the fastening and the opening would pull down as you put the baby in the classic position with your hands under his thighs.

I keep wishing for this, too. EC or not, it would make so much sense! Yet I hate sewing zippers, so I'm not about to try to switch mine...

I read somewhere you could pick out the crotch seam from pants and re-hem so they are open (from front to back). I don't know if that would work for sleepers???

I just use my sleepers as is. Now at 8 wks, baby is often cuing obviously enough that I have time to get his clothes off and get him to the potty.

With our blanket sleepers, I cut a slit all the way across the bottom and just left it like that. Fleece doesn't ravel, and it was easy to pull up and down. I kept socks and/or babylegs on the baby in case he worked his feet out of the bottom (which he rarely did until he was MUCH older, closer to a year old).
