i havent been very active in this DDC due to hyperemesis kicking my butt, but ive been lurking all the while. we made september, our big baby boy was born on 9/30!
we live 45 minutes to 1 1/2 hour from the hospital depending on traffic, plus i was GBS positive so we were a little worried about making it to the hospital on time for the antibiotics. i had three or so days of really uncomfortable braxton hicks, and imagine my surprise when i went in for my OB appointment on the 30th and she checked me and said, "you are five cm, there is no way i can send you home!" with my first son i arrived at the hospital at 5 cm in a serious amount of pain so this was a shocker to me as i felt just fine. we took our time going up to labor and delivery and checked in, and they told me that i could have some pitocin if i wanted or i could go for a walk. i was nervous about the pitocin because i had heard that it makes for harder labor but i was sick of being sick and agreed to try little to see if we could jump start things. they hooked me up and let the antibiotics go for a bit and then gave me a bit of pit and i guess i was ready to go because things started happening! i puked a bunch (hyperemesis had to have the last word) and the midwife asked if i wanted them to break my water... i said go for it and the boy was born about two hours later with only three pushes. i had some nitrous during the birth (which was awesome BTW) but no other pain meds and honestly the pitocin contractions were no worse than the non induced birth of my first. as soon as the placenta came out i felt GREAT and hungry for the first time in months and months. it is good to enjoy food again.
this kid is HUGE, half an ounce short of 9 lbs which surprised the hell out of me because my first was only just over 7 lbs, and he has a full head of hair. i was also very very surprised at how okay i feel "down there"... my first was posterior and i pushed for 2 hours and i was so swollen from all of that and this time i feel pretty okay. three pushes is a LOT easier on the body than two hours of pushing!
congrats to everybody on their new babies!
