i am just seeing this
for me - i've made 3 dolls... my very first being a kit i bought from Dancing Rain Dolls. Amy was a great help getting me through making my first 2 dolls (my third i used a different pattern - from Magic Cabin, which i do prefer, but her materials are surperub IMHO).

I like Dancing Rain Dolls too! The kit is great b/c it comes with all of the misc needles and things that are harder to track down.
Here is the one I made with a DRD kit.
It was a great learning experience! The only part that wasn't easy to follow was the wig instructions---but then I am NOT a crocheter!!! I managed it, but now I knit the wigs instead. Much easier for me.

I would also recommend the Making Waldorf Dolls books. I made my first dolls using the pattern in the Children's Year. I found it easy to follow. I would also recommend that you have a wee play at first with the materials to see how you get on. If you didn't want to make them from scratch and just want to 'decorate' them, you can buy just finished bodies on etsy. There are also some great tutorials online.
